  1. Hi all,
Just been offered great job in Dubai for next three years. I know that gambling is a big no no in the UAE but I would dearly love to keep playing online. Anybody do it? I heard that only two ISP's over there both censor content so I could be screwed.
I'm gonna go anyway but just want to be prepared......
  2. I wish... that place looks like the nuts

  3. Priorites.. FTW.
  4. My biggest client is in Dubai and has told me how strict it is. IMO it is not worth the risk. If you do manage to get around the censors if you get caught it would be mucho trouble.
  5. Priorities I get. for $200k a year tax free I guess I can live without the pokah for three long years.........

  6. what do u do?

    can i come too?
  7. People get 4 years hard time for a pot seed in their jacket pocket they didn't even know was there. I wouldn't fuck with their laws if I were you

  8. Would u like a cherry squooshie?
  9. Dubai is the shit... I would love to live there. I'd have to assume there are more than a few ways around this. One way, especially if you make $200k a year, would be to build a top of the line Cisco network (2-2800 Routers), set up a point-to-point link to a Network at your home in the U.K. and simply play poker via Remote Desktop sessions. You would actually be playing on your U.K. ISP and not even have poker software installed on your Dubai network. GL
  10. Not going til march or april so have time to suss the situation out. might be a solution tho. Air traffic controllers FTW

  11. ummm... yea. You might want to look over the laws there before you make the move.

There have been some absolutely unreal punishments coming out of that place lately for the most mild crimes ever. Like 5years+ for have a friggen molecule of pot on the bottom of your shoe, and 10+ years for having sex on the beach.

If it's against the law to play poker there, not a chance I would even try it.
  12. Just got back from 3 weeks there visiting my uncle. You won't be playing online over there at all, and gl even accessing stuff like P5's, everything is completely censored over there.

Like another poster said aswell, its really not even worth the risk because it does carry a penalty.

Great place to live though, cheap cost of living aswell, you'll love it, I know I do. You know what part you'll be living in yet?

Gl with the job anyways, sounds great, hope you don't miss poker too much :)

I'm sure you could find a way, but would you want to risk it in Dubai. It's one thing to do it in a US state where its illegal, but do it in Dubai, and you are probably looking at getting your finger cut off or at least 20 years in jail. Moral of the story, if you break the law of Dubai, they will break you, especially being an American.

1 month jail for partaking in a home game....
  21. I play against someone who is also moving to Dubai from England for a job. We got chatting one night and I researched a bit. NO GAMBLING with the exception of one thing (can't remember what it is, something like polo, elephant racing??). Be prepared to leave poker at home.

Good luck in your awesome opportunity. Most of us are jealous.

    ~Heck~
  22. Dubai looks so sweet...i want to visit someday
  23. Hi All,

Perhaps it's not the best idea to post this on an international forum, but here goes!

I've lived in Dubai for 18 months and play regularly online and offline. Firstly, Dubai is seriously over-hyped and I'm thinking about moving on to somewhere else soon.

Secondly, Dubai has Freezones with unrestricted internet access, so you can access certain poker sites with your wireless laptop, but you wouldn't want to make it obvious, because it is totally illegal.

I'm not condoning that you do it, but it can be done.
  24. Hi,

I go there for business twice a year and I've had absolutely no problem playing poker (PS, Ongame) through the hotels' wifi network by using the poker site's software.

However the web sites concerning poker are not accessible because of internet filters.

So if you use a poker site where you don't need to use a web page, there should be no problem.

Remember however that this was in a hotel and the local authorities wouldn't bother with tourists playing in their room during their stay. Now for people living there, the consequences could be different but I really don't think it should be too much of a problem.

You can get hookers and alcohol everywhere, I don't see them bothering anyone on their PC at home.

i wouldn't, no way. 200k is far not enough imo to bear a muslim country with some of the most ridiculous laws in the world. better don't fuck with them at all, forget about pokah and any vice.

Go there and then say that. I've been all over the world. North American and European parents and grew up in Asia, and Dubai is undoubtedbly top 3 places i've been. 200k a year living in the city is the fkn nuts. Put "dune-bashing" high up on ur priorities list. Its fun as hell
  28. Thanks for all the opinion informed and otherwise. Heading out for a few days next month to scope it out. Will take laptop and see what works and what doesn't. At the end of the day opportunity>poker so if I have to give it up for a few years then so be it. I'm hoping the experience will be worth it........

  29. as someone pointed out, if 200k is a shit load of cash in dubai, i am sure you can take a few trips to europe and play some serious live poker; even take your family for a weeked getaway/vacation. why even get into illegal shit overseas, with such a good opportunity? and what if they confiscate your laptop only to find that you do gamble? then what? and you have a wife and kids, F-dat, not worth it IMO. spend some time relaxing and sightseeing Oil fields :) and rich pricks driving top notch cars.
