anybody started with mtg?

    Just curious, since there's a few good poker players that used to be magic pros or at least playing the game before they switched to poker. I'd like to know if anybody from p5 played magic when they were younger. I know Drood made like 70k + playing the game, David Williams is another example. Anyway, post here if you played mtg .

    I played in one pro tour, got a top 8 grand prix, made lots of PTQ top 8s in the tough NY/NJ tournament scence, and won a PTQ for a second pro tour but i skipped it since by that time i had stopped playing. My biggest accomplishment was getting ranked number 10 in constructed in the world.

    Back when I was in high school i saw rounders and me and my friends all loved that movie and we would go to McDonalds after playing magic all day and play hold em for rares. I def credit all that time I spent playing MTG to getting me into poker.

    I also have one story, I walked into this coffee shop at rutgers after not playing magic for a few years, and saw these two guys playing magic, so I walked up to them and started talking shit about myself, I was like "yeah yeah I was number 10 in the world" and this guy goes whats your name, Im like "matt calhoun" he says, "oh yeah I think ive heard of you" with a big smile. Then I looked at his face and I realized it was Jon Finkel, so needless to say I was a little embarrassed. We had actually played together in the grand prix final 8, and we knew each other from grey matter and nuetral ground but we never hung out or anything. I also played against david williams but Im sure he doesnt remember me.

    I played and, much like poker, I was never any good at it.

    Cubing is still the best tilt control on earth, though. Beats dusting off money at the cash tables any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

    Obviously from this statement you didnt grow up much LOL.

    To the OP yes I used to play MTG at a competitive level prior to poker.Nothing like one of the previous posters but,I did make a fair profit playing primarily online.

    I played a bit. Used to write a weekly column for NG:NY and qed for a pro tour. Never really turned it into much though

    I play occasionally on MTGO when I'm running like crap @ poker.
