I should have smooth called I guess, but I decided a 3 bet could take the pot down. What do you think?

With out any reads I think it's a pretty standard squeeze spot but I'd probably raise more since you're oop and trying to fold out 2 players.
-
Please start providing some read of ur tbl. It really helps when analysing a situation.
I'm not three betting if I intend on folding. Raise it up like 3k and call all shoves. If you plan on folding to a 4bet, don't three bet.
It also depends on ur reads. If the dude opening the pot is lag and the guy calling is a station, obv 3bet. If they've been super nitty then i prolly just call since its cheap to do so from the bb.
I think the standard play is to raise since this is a c/o raise and a call from the sb.
But the big mistake comes when you fold. His range could be like AJ+, KQs, 99+, or worse in a 440. -
Both calling and 3bet folding is probably bad. If you call you run the risk of hitting the flop and then him showing you KK or AK for all your chips. If you decide to 3 bet you should probably commit yourself, there's a chance you're dominated, but that's the risk you take when you 3bet. If he comes back at you then you have to race it, end of story. If both those scenarios scare you, then be a tight-ass and fold the AQ. It is the biggest trap hand in holdem.
-
I like the 3bet because AQ doesn't play too well in a multi way pot. If you let a blind sneak in cheap or let the caller come along getting odds and one of them flops a weird two pair or a set what are you going to do when you flop a Q and its top pair? You'd be in a really hard spot if you get re-raised post flop. If Brick is nitty you most deff shouldn't of raised and actually just folding wouldn't be horrible. If he's pretty lag i like the 3 bet. I think folding when he re-pops is fine..it's a little spewish but when an early pos raiser comes back over top of your 3bet chances are AQ is no bien.

I find myself agreeing with you a lot CB.

The question to three bet or not, I think is largely dependant on reads. Is this someone who knows to take advantage of LP? If so, clearly its a 3bet, as we shouldn't be concerned about the sb. And considering now that most ppl know to raise a huge range (esp considering stacks sizes), I'm three betting unless I have a read that specifically tells me not to.
I just disagree about one thing you said. I think calling is marginally better than folding for a couple reasons. ONe, ppl will often stack off with Ax when an A flops. I agree its tricky to handle this sitaution, so pot control is important. You def wanna keep it small, and don't lead out on it. Peel a flop and see what happens on the turn. If it comes Qxx and someone has AA, KK or a set its kind of a cooler.
Two, I'm also calling just for the chance to hit a big hand-top two, top pair and a draw. Flatting is less than 4% of ur stack and ur like over50bbs effective, so you do have a big opportunity to stack him when you hit a big hand-and a chance to win a smaller pot if an A or Q flops.
But again, I just have a real hard time not three betting this. I prolly gamboool more than I should. And at this level there's alot to be said about allowing ur opponents to make a mistake, as one of those players folds a small to mid sized pair often enough, or decides that ur fucking with him and thinks his ATs is good.
