  2. i was underage like 5 months ago and ive been playin for 3 years online
  3. Officer she said she was 18, I swear!
  4. Do mean under 18 or 21?
21 is the standard in the U.S. B&M casinos, but none of these sites fall under domestic laws, otherwise it we would have bigger legal troubles than how old we are.
  5. Well i am fifteen. I consider myself a poker prodigy.

  15. My 15 yr old daughter told me recently that several of her high school classmates play on party poker and pokerstars. She overheard one of them bragging that he won a tournament there for about $2500. She goes to a private school in Manhattan and many of her classmates have parents with $1 million plus a year type jobs. It doesn't surprise me that these rich kids are playing.
  16. What's her phone number? You know...just to confirm ;-)
    1
  17. 911
  18. I have a 8 yr old son who I let play with play money. However I was playing a $50 tourney and 'sat out' on stars to let the dogs out. 5 min later I came back in and he doubled me up and then some. He couldn't wait to tell me about how he played his 2 pair. He knows all the hand nick-names and gets really excited when I play. He's actually quite good and playes a more solid/consivertave game than I do. Is that a problem?
  19. the only problem is if he didnt help you win the tourny ;)
  20. I sometimes let my 9yr old brother play. Usually I give him 1$ sit'n'go's to play and most often he finishes 3rd or 2nd. Once he even won it :)
  21. My 10 year old son has won at least 3 sng. Play money of course. But i let him play my tables sometimes when i need a break. He will ask me. You want me to play tight. Yeah! Tight! I'll come back and he will say something like: Dad only got q7 offsuit and soooted 84. Thanks Son Good Job.
  22. what do you most of you with kids think about your kids playing poker?

i got hooked on poker when my family would play at christmas every year. my dad wouldnt let me play at all until i was 13 or 14. i was however to once i was this age he let me play for a little bit for him but not with my own money.

i started to play on my own in high school and they were OK with that. When i have kids though i've often wondered if i should allow them to learn at a young age. i'm not just sure it is a good thing for kids that young to be playing, even if its for play money. it just leads to them wanting to win real money (ie: i won 15 dollars in play money today, imagine if that was real!)

    what does everyone think?
  23. I would strongly discourage my kids from playing poker. There is are many reasons why almost all of the most successful professional poker players don't or didn't want their children to grow up and play poker.

I also think that underage gambling right now is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
  24. I agree that underage gambling is a problem and might go as far as to say gambling in general is a problem for many adults as well. That being said, IMO, poker can be a valuable teaching tool for older children that want to learn. In context, poker can be viewed as a game of mastery that, in many ways, is a metaphor for life.

I believe that patience, discipline, observation, active learning, and sportsmanship are attributes that need to be taught and poker (if the child is interested) can be a means to learning some of these skills.

I would never encourage my children to pursue poker as a first vocation, but I don't discourage them from playing either. Right now only one child is interested in playing, but at the moment she is more interested in "playing" and "winning" rather than taking the time to study and observe as I ask her to. Hence, she doesn't play. My children get to see poker as a job, and it's not fun like on TV.
  25. Poker can be a valuable teaching tool.

However, so can any sport. I don't want my children sitting in front of a computer screen or TV all day long. I want them participating in sports and other activities that foster growth.

Patience, discipline, observation, active learning, and sportmanship can all be learned on the baseball diamond or gridiron. Also, it ensures my kids won't get sores on their asses for being planted in front of their computer or Playstation.

Call me oldfashioned, but they will have plenty of time to take up poker, if they so choose. They only have a few years to enjoy their childhood, and I don't want them wasting it indoors and chatting with virtual friends, like we adults do!

  26. Agreed, BigGunX...sports are outstanding for teaching the same skills. Some children; however, are also more inclined to take up writing, acting, chess. It depends on the child.

And, internet poker? My opinion for any child is NO.
  27. You're right, sports aren't the answer for all kids.

And yes, I agree wholeheartedly, Internet Poker is a definite "no."

  28. Same here!
  29. My mom doesn't know I play for real money, but my dad was the one who let me start. Once i started coming home from games with friends with money he let me start playing online as long as I gave him 10% of my winnings. I don't see a problem with it really. I can do something I enjoy and most of the time make money doing it. I recently quit some other hobbies that costed roughtly $50 a week. And I deposited $100 on PS over a month ago and am still playing on it. It's just a cheap hobby I enjoy and my dad understands that.
  30. Hey dude, dont spout off too much or youll get kicked off like i did.
