  2. Well this seems like a pretty elementary reraise here... Would say making it about 20k or so. If he pushes then you have a real decision(most of the time you would be soundly beat at that point IMO.... though I only see him pushing after your reraise around 20% of the time or less... this is all based on not knowing the players in question too) In short though no question reraise
  3. He is tring to pick up the blinds, Raise it 20k more than likely he will fold if he goes over the top he is going to have a monster and wanted to make it look like a steal pre flop hoping you had a decent hand and would reraise. Its a 3 dollar tourny and usally you wont get that kind of play. You have him covered in chips so a reraise is a must in this postion, If you goes allin then hopefully its a race or Ax he has
  4. If he's simply stealing, won't a reraise to 14k or so do?

Also, because of stack sizes, doesn't reraising put me in a sort of awkward situation? If he calls the reraise, do I push every flop?

  5. Your re-raise is dependent on your opponent and what you think he will call, but the idea is you want him to fold, so aim for that. About the flop, if he calls it's likely he has a medium pair or AK...it could even be AJ depending on how loose he is, but if he calls then you should be able to guess if it hit him or not. If you don't think it has, then you put a bet in, about 60-80% of the pot I reckon. If he re-re-raises you or goes all-in pre-flop then your most likely behind to a big pair or AK. Hope that helps.

  6. I should be able to guess if it hit him or not? How?

And wouldn't any reasonable continuation bet commit me to the pot?

  7. Cyclone , it's important that you raise to at least 20 k .

If you get called preflop , then your hand is close to garbage on the flop unless you hit .

If I get called preflop , I wont always go for the continuation bet as I'm probably already losing on the flop to any pocket pair if I don't hit . I would strongly consider checking and taking the free card if I don't hit the flop .

Tj Cloutiers no limit book does a great job at explaining this .
  8. You really don't want to price him into a call with any 2 here, so a standard re-raise of 14K would be a mistake IMO. Let your read on this player help you with your decision, if he is the kind of player that will check fold post flop when he misses, maybe you want to see a flop. If he is ultra-aggro pre-flop, and you think he may move in on you to a re-raise, maybe you want to just move in, and beat him to the punch. An important factor is that you have more chips, so you can eliminate him. Mini-raises confuse me, sometimes they scream a premium hand, sometimes they are just an attempt to steal the blinds by risking minimal chips.
  9. jtown:
If he's super-aggressive preflop, why would I want to shove in before him? Wouldn't it be better to make a smallish reraise then call a push (if he's pushing such a wide range)?

    jay_shark:
If I'm giving up on all flops without an A or Q (or better) after reraising, is smooth calling preflop an option? Though I suppose he does fold to the reraise quite often (and I pick up 10k+ in chips).

  10. Next step:

I reraised to 18k, he thought for a few seconds then called. Flop came down K75 two clubs. Now what?

  11. Check . If you had ace king , wouldn't you consider checking at this spot cyclone ?

I suppose if you bet half the pot and think you'll win more than 33 % of the time then it's a profitable play but I think checking here is a bit more deceptive and your hand is really nothing anymore at this point . It's only ace high and i'm positive this player has a middle pocket pair or a wierd hand like king queen . Either way , you are likely beat at this point .

The problem with making a bet at the flop is that occasionally you become pot committed if you're pushed all in .
If you check and he bets , you relinquish the pot . If it's checked behind you , then you can make a bet of about half the pot on the turn depending on your read .
  12. Let me just say that any bet you make at the pot at this point is a high risk bluff .
