  1. You've heard stories exactly the same before but this ones mine so ill get straight to it.

I'm a combat medic in the US army currently stationed in Seoul, Korea and am going to be stationed here for 3 years along with my wife who is also in the army stationed here with me. I'm 25, been playing poker for about 8 years now. plenty of online experience and do pretty and now i can beat the smaller games. So ive thought it out, made the plan and here i go. Nothing too exciting, the plan is to build my bankroll over the next 3 years online so when i get out of Korea and the army ill have a sizeable bankroll to play with. i started with 50 bucks on Nov. 11th and im at 160ish as I write this. The plan is to stick to basic bankroll management rules and work my way up the ladder playing 9 man sngs and heads up matches. with only 50 bucks to start i started off playing 5 buck games. I realize 50 bucks doesnt justify 5 buck games but i was willing to deposit more if i busted. thankfully i quickly moved up to a comfortable sized bankroll for my game.

    question i have

-i have poker tracker but is there better programs out there or is this the best one to have?

k well thats pretty much it for now, like i said nothing exciting or that you havent heard before just my story...

  2. Gl Sir,

Pokertracker or Holdem Manager are basically the best out there, there's a trial version of HM which could give you an idea of which out of the two you prefer.
  3. keep us updated! gl, in poker , life and the army.

  5. Poker helped me make enough money to get out of the Navy and get a degree. Best advice I can give you is keep your bills low while in the Army and take some shots at poker. Really if your serious about playing take as many shots as you can and test yourself while your still in the secure enviroment of the Army. If your not a big winner by the end of your tour (steady 6-10K month profit in your last year). Then keep poker as a hobby.

  7. You might want to reconsider what you're starting with. If you have disposable income and can comfortably deposit more money to start with a larger bankroll, you may want to do that. The main advantages of starting off with a small amount of money is that it allows you to learn the games and minimize your loss, but since you are comfortable with poker already and I assume have the skills and experience to beat some games, starting off smaller then you can is probably just a waste of your time.

  8. gl. Have you been to any of the casinos in Seoul? I've only been to 7 Luck at the Coex mall. They did not play any poker, not sure about the others. I wanna check out Paradise Walker Hill. If you know of any games in the Seoul area hit me up. I'm at Osan.
  9. yea my wife and i go to 7luck every other weekend or so to play some blackjack and have some drinks. i heard there isnt poker at the casinos here and when they used to have it the rake so was ridiculous per hand that no one played. something like 10 bucks a hand. they have free poker nights on post sometimes but i rather spend my time building my bankroll online.

  10. They have 1-2 and 2-5 game at Walkerhill. The rake is pretty bad, but there are some MOOOOOOOOOOOONKEYS that play there and just donate money.
  11. ill have to go give it a try once were allowed off base again lol

That's right they dont let you play op AP/UB, I had the same problem while i was in Korea. But besides stars, fulltilt is nice! you should try it out, and it works in Korea! GL!

  17. FTP does not work in Korea. At least not for me. I bought a new lap top and it blocks FTP. I'm stuck on stars as well. Oh, I download Cake, but was not a fan of it.

I was in Korea till last June and FTP worked fine for me! For live poker, I think they only haver poker games at Walker hill now.
They used to have poker at 7luck but they had something like a 1-year contract to offer texas holdem and they were under construction (7luck next to Hilton) so they didnt renew the contract. So they might have poker again if the reconstruction is done.

You on Mac or PC? It doesn't block the software, it just blocks their homepage. I could get you the software (somehow) if you wanted. I run FTP and stars here.

Edit: For both of you guys saying FTP doesn't work for you. Are you both on PCs??

Use a Proxy, I like Covermyass! It allowed me to play in Kuwait, Duabi and Afganistan.

No I am in a Carear I enjoy now. I do however play at least once a week.
  22. I was in the military for 6 years and JMO, but if you are serious about making a nice BR, start setting up games with the guys on base... They have money to burn (COLA FTW), and love to get drunk and dump it to you. When I got stationed in Hawaii I lived off of the money I would make from these games and just bank my checks every month until I got married. Needless to say my wife walked around with a Tiffany's ring and we were able to travel to all the islands and buy a nice car with the earnings (not bad for an E-3). That lasted till we had our first kid then I focused on school more than poker but still played once in a while to supplement our income. Poker is a great thing, but unless you're a top player my advice would be to play as a serious hobby and take advantage of your Tuition assistance that the military provides you and get a degree before you get out so if your poker career doesn't take off or goes south, you have a fall back. Good luck either way but IMO always have a secondary source of income / fall back plan if you plan on making it a career after you get out.
  23. I feel special that I know what COLA stands for.......
  24. haha i get COLA, but not much for BAH cause my wife is military stationed with me here also. as far as ftp it let me play the first week i was here, then when they did there weekly software update i couldnt download it. i emailed ftp and the instructions they gave me included unistalling the software so i did. then when i went to dowload it again the internet here in korea wouldnt let me access the ftp site. but i would greatly like to (somehow) get the software to play again. yes i have a pc not a mac btw...
