i think from an ethical perspective it is not strictly cheating if there was no preconceived plan (i.e. player A and player B both entered the tourny independently without consultation, player A busted, then on the spur of the moment player A offered to buy-out player B's entry): at face value this appears to have been the case here with Aaron.
the problem, however, is that if this EXCUSE were allowed then anyone who did have a preconceived plan would be able to hide behind it.
FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT, therefore, it should henceforth be a clear violation of the rules and also be considered cheating (i.e. subject to puntive sanctions) if a player who was entered into the same tournament takes over the account of another player entered into that tournament FOR WHATEVER REASON.
the stars rules referred to above seem to confirm this too although perhaps they could be spelt out a little more clearly on this point.
i'm guessing that a lot of players having been operating in somewhat of a grey area in this regard. the sites need to draw the line to obviate these grey areas, sanction the real cheaters (those who have clearly been systematically sharing multiple accounts) and put out a clear warning to all the rest who might have inadvertently strayed across the lines. -
^^^ I think this is how I feel. From what I know aaron does not multi-account and is generally a good guy. I don't think to lump him in with multi-accounters and burn him at the stake is fair. However, I dont like the idea of people buying accounts deep in tourneys from others whatsoever and I think it should be stopped.

"they basically said I can let anyone I want take control of my account whenever I feel like it"
That seems to be in direct conflict with their decision to dq a FT player in last week's Millions -
My 2 cents....Aaron offered to buy my position late in the 400k. I rejected the offer as I felt it was unethical and offended me. pokerstars response, via someones post earlier, was that you are able to do what you want with your account as long as you know you are liable for what happens to it. I think the gray area here isnt whether its right or wrong, but whether its unethical or against the rules. I love everyone, including aaron, so no one give me shit.

CP,
Dude, you're not in the real world if you don't understand there are some crazy MF's out there. Don't be so delusional. I hope it doesn't happen, and I wouldn't condone it in any form, however, AS I SAID...I wouldn't be surprised if it did. Just read more often or something...fuck. -

I don't think there's an issue, I just disagree with you that this is a "huge" difference.
If I am at a table with an account that I know I can "buy" at any given time, then that's going to drastically change the way I play vs. that account. I'm going to push much harder, make bigger bluffs, etc. because I know even if I lose a huge pot (or even bust out) I can buy all those chips right back and keep on playing as if I won the hand.
If you want to differentiate between "First degree" collusion and "Second degree" collusion... fine. I'll grant you that. I just don't agree that there's a "HUGE" difference between the two. It's still collusion, it's still cheating, it still gives the player a huge advantage over those not doing it, and it's equally unethical in my opinion. -
how is this different in any way to 500 different replies in 50 different threads and why does this need to be a new thread

Waco, most of the time you are spot on, but do you honestly think there is anywhere near the amount of collusion in live tournaments versus online tournaments? How is your point even relevant here?
And as I read it Abeen is not making reference to Bax, timex etc.

Lets say that I make it deep in a major live event. I reach the final table 3rd in chips but then decide to sell my seat to Phil Ivey who did not play in the event. I bet that that is not allowed and it would def be unfair to the table who thought that they would be playing against a no name.
-
Identifies AaronBeen as someone who spams tables deep in tourneys in an effort to buy peoples seats and misrepresent who is playing.
From what I can tell, this gets your account revoked on Full Tilt, but stars says its ok... -
Waco, first of all much respect to all of your recent accomplishments. However, just because you are in the know, or more in the know than the average player, does not make it right. I quit (almost entirely) playing tourneys long ago once I noticed drastic changes in player tendencies deep into tourneys that went beyond simply "switching gears". It would only be fair for EVERYONE to know what is going on. Most of us lower limit grinders that occasionally get a shot at a big score would very much like to not be playing against a top pro that appears to be the same guy that donked his way into the money.
Waco, imagine playing your way to final table at a major live event. You have a higher than average stack, and have assessed your play to be better than most of the final table. The day before the final table, you had prepared yourself to play against Humberto Brenes and seven other relatively unknowns that have found their way to final table. You arrive to the table at 1 p.m. on Sunday to find 5 of the unknown players gone. In their place you have Phil Ivey on your left, Helmuth on your right, the Grinder two seats to your right, Jen Harman across the table, and I'll throw in Ted Forrest two seats to your left. All of these player busted out of the tourney on Day 1. How would you feel about your chances of coming away with a win now?
Now imagine by some Mission Impossible technology that these top pros looked exactly like the guys you were playing against and gaining information on over the last 3 days of play. At least you know some of the tendencies of the aforementioned pros, but if they look just like the fish you watched donk (or at least play sub-optimally) into the final table; you have some really bad information. Bad information is worse than no information at all in poker. Information about a player is one of the best tools we have as player to counter others' tactics and tendencies at the table.
I know online is a "different" game than live, but the principles and information should remain as close the same as possible.
Your word is as good as gold to me. However, you need to understand that most of us do not have the same information as you have. I do not think that MOST of the top players are conducting themselves unethically. I do think several are. I wish I had a simple fix for this problem. Unfortunately I don't think any of us do. Thank you Waco for continuing to contribute to the community despite your recent successes. I have personally learned alot from watching you play and reading your thoughts. Just put yourself in the non-millionaire's shoes that occasionally gets a shot. We'd like for it to as fair of a shot as possible. -
I will continue to have no moral objection to buying others action or selling my advice (or even selling my action or buying advice) as long as sites continue to allow it and I think they should continue to allow it because as Lee Jones said, unenforceable rules are not a good idea.
All I want to know is who are the players that are dumb enough to buy advice from aaronbeen? You have got to be kidding me. -
I think this is an excellent point you make Geek. I would like for everyone ease back to page 1 of this topic and at least glance at a lengthy post (a response to Waco) that examines how this practice of buying accounts might affect the players that are not doing it. I know I would play differently against players which I knew I could buy their seat from vs. players I couldn't if in fact I was good enough or corrupt enough to do it.
-
I would like for it to be fair too... I dont condone any of these types of activities and never will... your first few sentences are off base as I never said this was right or defended anyone in any way, simply stated a few facts... here is another one, I despise cheaters
-
keith, maybe he could teach you how to close a tourny?? maybe recapture that glory that happened on the 29th of november, 2006. maybe.

If you know you would play differently that makes you a scumbag(or someone who softplays), and kinda dumb - make the best play all the time. According to this logic backers would softplay backees - they dont from what I've seen. Are you also argueing that backing is unethical from this standpoint?

Maybe you should say maybe more

Wouldn't this be like walking up to some rando internet donkey who managed to get deep in the WSOP main event and saying, "hey, I'll give you 120K and I'll take over now. Thanks."
Something tells me that wouldn't be allowed. Just a thought.
