The 'Attractiveness' of this site to me can be summarized by the strategy archives section over on the left. The informed, detailed, and usually eye-opening posts that make this place so great! I also thought it would be a good idea to
In lieu of all the negativity in the past week......
I thought it would be a good thing to remember the things that are BEST about this place as a reminder to everyone what it is that makes us proud to be members of pocketfives
These are things I have enjoyed most about pocketfives as well as the things I wish we could have more of in the future----
BigHems to give more Hand Analyses where he has his opponent 'soot dominated',
SamEnole's to give us more live trny reports,
Annie Duke and Michael Craig to grace us with her presence more,
More F Beanie posts, and Supermoves elaborate stories,
Blair Rodman to write just about anything he wishes as it's all a great read,
JJ to continue organizing the 'Sunday bet',
More Friendly trash talking and actual wagers like the August TLB,
Brsavage's posts where he begins with 'my contribution to the p5s community'
A monthly charity event since the recent one went so well--(we could vote on the charity each time, anyone who wants to head this up feel free to contact me and I will help when I can)
TheBeat to give us more FT Hand history's,
More planned Atlantic City/Vegas/Tunica/ etc. weekends
Green Plastics 'beyond-his-years' mature advice
Fox to continue always answering our questions perfectly
Etc. Etc. Etc. (I'm sure there are more I forgot to list)
*note some of my names may be mixed up, I am human, I make mistakes!
........
A few things that may help us continue creating these 'attractions'
What do I wish would happen? Simply people not posting everything that comes to mind. Actually posting there $1.00 and not their .02! Trying to avoid the 'smart ass' comments whenever possible. LISTEN MORE and TALK LESS! But this just isn't going to happen, because the 'teacher always has to tell the class to quit talking again eventually'!
The discussions are great but the negativity is uncalled for most of the time.... If you have learned already (I am still reminding myself daily) that negative remarks do very little when it comes to improving a situation. This is a life lesson that will be of high +EV for anyone once they fully understand it.
Ask yourself (be honest with yourself here), "Would I say this in person to the guys face?" I would bet that most of the comments would be left unsaid.....
Also, PLEASE can we get back to taking some more money from these idiots trying to give it away while playing our favorite game!?
for what it's worth,
beauright
P.S- This post is only meant to be a reminder of what this site is capable of and how we as a community can reach this. Please add to my list of truely great things that makes pocketfives.com so attractive! -
100% agreed. Great post.
Another thing that makes pocketfives so attractive is it hasnt become too much of a bad beat forum similar to what fcp has become. Also I think we all believe each other is on equal footing rather than talking down to people with a low post count. I love the fact that I can come here and voice my opinion with guys like Beanie and Sheets and Bax where they have made a ton of money and I just dabble.

it hasnt become too much of a bad beat forum similar to what fcp has become.
that's because there are good players here who understand that bad beats are a good thing.
other reasons why P5's is great:
- average players able to give feedback and recieve advice from top ranked players.
-It is a nice feeling for the average $20-$50 MTT player to be able to post that he won a tournament or made a big FT and get congrats from everyone else. Or even better another P5'er noticed him at the FT and posted about him.
-Off Topic :)
-sense of community
I know I am a much better player due to what I have learned on this site. And I'm sure a lot of others feel the same.

Does the media swarm baseball players who have allegdly used steroids? YES. Do they bring up the same question every 20 seconds YES. JJ is our barry bonds multi account, chip dumping etc etc is pokers version of steroids. So when this happends or when someone gets caught (like he did) how do you not expect people to flood the boards with questions and harrassment??? do I agree with making a post every 5 seconds, NO. However thats going to happen if something that big happends.

I love the fact that some of the great ranked players are willing to speak their mind and aren't worried about consequences or losing popularity. BRSavage comes to mind immediately.
I love that the admins do what they think is best for the site and to hell with anyone who doesn't like it. If they ban someone it's because they think it will keep the community healthy. Like pruning the hedges.
I like that people who are in direct competition can be professional and even friendly with each other. I've seen it myself with the way the owners of the other training sites ahve interacted with me. Gidders joined my site and even made a free video for us. NSXT2 shot me a free membership to RPT long ago and has also been quite friendly to me at the tables. GreenPlastic has been friendly and has complimented me on my site as I have complimented him on his. Gotskillz has stood up for me in posts and tried to be a voice of reason. Gank has expressed opinions that I very much agree with and been nothing but pleasant and uncompetitive with me as well.
Take a bunch of competitors from any profession and ask them about the other. Take a mechanic and ask him about 4 other mechanics in town. He will almost always have bad things to say, but I have yet to hear any of the teachers here rip on each other's sites. Seal, GBMantis, and others have sent me students and I have sent students to them.
I'm always impressed when there is a discussion of a hand history and people respectfully disagree on a tough decision and some people may even change their minds.
I like that the people with the most respect (like BR, Gank, and GP) are so often the voices of reason and it's onyl the fringe players that seem to want to cause trouble or be annoying. -
AGREE.

*I believe Fox just reiterated my point about him....Great post Fox
more to my list.....
-the guys like gidders and fox that offer so much advice to others and exhibit a desire to teach and give back
-the immediate opening of arms to those that are struggling...I have seen, unfortunately, too many posts of those struggling, but it is good that they are able to say it to others and come here and get comforted. I am amazed at how everyone is quick to lend a kind word to those that are struggling.
-THE ARTICLES!!! When I get on the internet to get some reading material, I come here first....The best part about it is that Everyone can submit an article and feel proud of what they have put together.
-etc. etc.
for what it's worth,

I like to be reassured that through all my losing there are actually people who do win at poker

I gave you a free membership? YOu have a training site? Who the Fuck is Giddys? gbmanits teaches people?
This is said in sarcasm but the truth is I only knew the answer to one of these questions. I don't pay attention to anything. It is proabably a flaw but I don't look at my training as a business in any sort. I have never actively seeked members to my site or for private coaching. I know who gidders is but seriously did not know that Fox had a video training website or that gbmantis or anybody else teach people.
Rock on, thx Fox, I will never view anybody as competition and pls don't ever think of me as comp. My site was created by demand as was my private coaching. I never planned to train a single person. Just had to choose between telling people to sod off or start charging. I wasn't the type to ignore or not help people so charging was my only choice. Glad to see so many others have followed though with their websites and private coaching.
I will take credit for taking all the HEAT with private online training so that others could do it without the intense ramifications I had to go through. -
I really like actionjeff's hand histories and hand analysis. I think he adds a lot to this community, and is my second favorite poster (shaniac jr. owns)
