Now the question which might make it belong in this section. Any comments on how the hand was bet? The hand was in a TEC freeroll on UB early in the tourney so no biggie about how I lost out of the WSOP on it :) -
this isn't a bad beat. just a bad play (on your part). you got all your money in when you were drawing dead.
Now, it is likely darioz70 is a donkey and he'd have called no matter what you did on the flop. But your flop bet of 10 was really, really bad (please, please, please draw out on me!!!)
And I don't care for the preflop raise much either. That is a pretty big raise for AJ in the first level of a freeroll. -
Hindsight being 20/20 - it's easy to see your mistake. I agree that you should have pushed harder after you flopped your set. You just opened the door for a drawing hand. That's a tough one though!
Better luck next time -
Yes never, ever, ever make a bet that small. Whats the point? Slowplaying with 3 to the flop is pretty risky, but if you want to take that chance and hope someone bets behind you, then just check. If you want to bet and make someone pay if they are drawing, then bet a reasonable amount. The 10 chip bet looks suspicious and probably reduces the posssibility of a raise behind you, and gives anyone with any kind of draw great odds to try to hit it.

It's almost amazing what people consider "bad beats." How is it a bad beat when you allowed the guy to hit his flush for a $10 bet. And then when he did, you proceeded to get all the money in with 3 of a kind when you should have thought, "I just gave away the flush. Look at him reraise all-in." It's not a bad beat... Just awful play. And the fact that you got the 4th Jack on the river only makes it an easier story for you to tell after all is said and done. "I had quads Jacks and this donkey hit his straight flush on me." Blah blah blah.
Just think for a minute and look at it...
Turn (board: Jd Ks Js Qs):
helenrnurse bets 515. darioz70 goes all-in for 1385.
wbusey folds. helenrnurse calls.
You have A,J... He's reraising all-in. At this point, what hands are out there that can beats yours. Name 'em off in your head. There's a lot of them. But the flop play was by far the worst play of the hand. -
She/he (i don't know helen's gender) flopped trips, not a set. There is a big difference--a set is much stronger than trips.

I usually fold A J, even suited, if I'm under the gun early in a tourny. If I really wanted to see a flop though, I'd just limp and call a small raise instead of making the big over-raise. I don't want to build a big pot out of position. If no one calls your over-raise, you're just going to win 15. If you get called, you have a weak hand and are out of position, but now there's a big pot with a lot of your chips in it that't you'll have to make a play for, committing even more of your chips. So in my opinion, the biggest error was made pre-flop, both in entering the pot and entering for such a large raise. I don't like the 10 flop bet for reasons others already discussed. But I will say, once you make the big bet on the turn, you're committed, so you can't feel bad about calling off the rest of you money after you bet that much.

did you type that wrong or did you really bet 10 on the flop with 380 in the pot already? with a bet like that you are giving any remote sort of draw ridiculous odds to call n make their hand. You should have bet much harder with a flop like that. Also, with a flop like that if this guy is willing to go all in on the turn its not rare for you to be beat already. the fact that you hit one of 10 outs (3 A, 3 K, 3 Q, 1 J) against what was probably at least a straight or a flush didn't bail you out b/c indeed this guy hit a straight flush, but you should have known that you were getting your chips in on the turn as a dog.
