  1. I am a low limit tournament player and sng player. And was wondering if playing in $10 and $5 etc... NL tournaments and qualifers into bigger tournaments is consider awful bankroll management?

I understand that each of those tournaments ranges from 10 to up to 20% of my entire bankroll but feel that if one can have decent success at in those tournaments with shots at larger cashes to one day get a larger bankroll the risk vs reward is ample enough.

Does anyone else here do something similiar along these lines? I also know playing in the .55 cent and $1 games are just not fun to me so the gambler in me likes the slightly higher stakes (lol) to be more of a rush and has a higher quality of player opposed to the ultra lowest limits.
  2. Playing 5 and 10 dollar satties with a $50 bankroll is definately terrible br management. Does the gambler in you like to be broke?
  3. It is definitely above your bankroll to play in that high of stakes. I guess my question to you is how often can you make $50 deposits? Because as someone said you do have a very good chance at losing that whole deposit
  4. Well usually with a $50 deposit it last the weekend and i go busto or i get it up enough for a cash out of 50 to 100.

I guess I can justify spending $20 at the bar so easily on over priced beer that this is jsut a form of entertainment for an amatuer and instead of dropping the said $20 on beverages on other things like movies etc.. I can justify dropping $5 or $10 on a few hours of entertainment.

Summed up I have no br mgmt but can justify my "huge buy ins"

  5. You are pretty much just like myself and thousands of other recreational players out there. The idea behind bankroll management is not necessarily to only buyin for 2-5% of your current online account balance, but of what you would be comfortable risking over time without getting yourself to a point you are no longer comfortable with your true gains/losses.

Personally, I 'allow' myself a monthly poker allowance for both online and casino play, which is smuch smaller than a typical bar tab. If I'm up for the month and don't make a deposit, I might treat myself to a live tourney ($30-200 buyin) or a few $10-$30 MTTs online. If I've depositted and run badly, I get to watch poker on TV and do some more reading/learning to improve. Someday soon, I hope to hit a decent score and play more and larger tourneys, but until then, the key is play at what is comfortable and affordable.

My general rule of thumb is when you can not TRUTHFULLY admit to your losses to yourself, your friends and your family, you have probably played too badly for too long and need a break. (E.G. over 3+ years I'm up $900 at Hollywood poker, down $350 at FTP and down nearly $1k at PS, and down $500 at the casino, for an average loss of about $250 per year, which is something I can afford for my 'hobby')
