over on 2+2 they are talking ripping Bax for signing a deal with UB. For weeks I've watched tons of P5'ers talk nothing but trash about Annie Duke and UB, I'm just wondering why this isnt a big deal to yaw
-
There is a huge thread on it somewhere that was made the other week... it seems to have died down a bit now though
-
lol, you read 2+2.
-
King Rube would be a hero these days around here... such nutswingaments
-
it was a big deal and we beat that horse to death but I guess 2+2 is beatin it some more
-
It is the Pocketfives double standard. It's quite easy to understand.
-
I think Neil Armstrong is going to walk on the moon very soon!
-
My guess is that Bax, Sheets and several prominent members of this forum believe that UB is worth redemtion. As such they have a following that was disappointed in the UB scandal but believe that recent changes are enough to ensure safe play on that site.
As one of the lead detractors, I lack the popularity and credibility of these members so the information is put out there for the discussion sake working against Bax Sheets and UB's financial interests, while UB's PR machine is lent a sympathetic treatment from the prominent figures on this forum.
My guess is this site has gone dark on the matter to aid UB's pr machine and help them down the road to recovery. -
"My guess is this site has gone dark on the matter..."
Maybe everyone had their say and that was what ended it? lol at a big p5s conspiracy to let "it" go away quietly. -
it's not just bax now rizen has gone and sullied his (once) good name for the sake of riches :(
-
whats wrong with UB? besides small traffic...
oh and its y'all -
What other type of business can the owners rip off its customers, get found out and then continue trading like nothing ever happened? None. The fucking site is a joke. Anyone playing there is an idiot.
-
"oh and its y'all"
I reckon that depends on how ya'll pronounce it. -
No, it's not how you pronounce it. It's a contraction of the words "you all" and it's "y'all".
-
I cant believe I'm going to say this
Helenrnurse is correct. -
i wish bax was my father lol!

Why is it considered bad by some that people are willing to give a site a second chance when they are making serious efforts to improve and to address the mistakes/wrongs of the past?
UB has things that are good and is trying to improve in other areas. I think they will be successful. But not because I am part of an UB conspiracy -
It's never going to be something everyone agrees on. There will be people who never even consider playing on UB/AP again, and there will even be people who think anyone who does play there is some sort of traitor to the online community. There are plenty of others who want to see what UB and AP can do to turn things around. We're at the point where we're just hearing people say the same things over and over (on both sides). Obviously it's a very major issue, and it's not something that should be handled lightly--we just all have different opinions about what's best for poker going forward.

Its bad in in the eyes of the Anti-UB posters because I (we?) feel the people who choose to play UB knowing about the superuser scandal are supporting a corrupt organization that really needs to go away for Online Poker to gain greater legitimacy. The pro UB/AP feels that the software is good and there needs to be another major site to play than the Big 2 sites and that killing UB/AP is bad for online poker. I feel this position is totally wrong. Someone will eventually come along to fill any void left by a UB/AP loss and by killing them off it sends a message to the sites that as players we will not tolerate being ripped off by insiders/owners.

Right now they have made some PR moves to enhance their image and to regain some trust but facts remain the "suspect" owner is still an owner and the "new" management did nothing proactive about superusers when they could but only acted after problems were exposed. Its bad to some anti UB/AP people when we see those who continue to play UB/AP because we feel it enables the crooks, past and present. It sends the message that some PR moves are enough to overcome criminal acts by high level insiders and their friends. It sends the message to crooked management that protecting the player is secondary to other issues real or perceived. Those being Pro sponsorships for top onine players (Bax and Rizen) who didnt like or couldnt get a deal elsewhere, giving players more online choices or simply player loyalty, and who knows what else.
I guarentee that if I ripped of the kind of money these guys did, I'd be on my way to jail and not fined some token amount and required to make some restitution. And I am also sure there would be litigation and punititve damages involved. And I futher guarantee I'd no longer be an owner of whatever outfit did the crime. For some Anti UB/AP types there should not even be a pro UB/AP side until revolutionary changes occur there and an owner goes to jail.
I won't rehash all the other old territory here as my comments are articulated well enough in the original posts.
Adams reply post probably reflects the situation pretty clearly. That said, I think the pro-UB mentality of the people who control this site is reflected in the fact that prior BAX and UB posts were not pinned to the front page for some extended period when the issue was hot. -
UltimateBet Parent Co. in Second Cheating Scandal
by Bradley Vallerius
UltimateBet has revealed that an individual or individuals who
formerly worked for the site were able to cheat players for a period
spanning 21 months.
This admission is the second in less than a year that parent company
Tokwiro Enterprises ENRG has had to make. Another of its properties,
AbsolutePoker.com, revealed a similar security breach last fall.
Tokwiro, owned by Joseph T. Norton, the former grand chief of the
Mohawk Council of Kahnawake, said the perpetrators were employed by
UltimateBet prior to its purchase by Tokwiro in October 2006.
According to a prepared statement from Tokwiro Thursday, the
perpetrators obtained opponents' hole card information by manipulating
software code that was part of a legacy auditing system, and were
active players on the network from March 2006 to December 2007.
The company has not revealed how much money the cheaters won, but
evidence indicates it could be millions of dollars. In January
UltimateBet was alerted to suspicious behavior by the user name,
NioNio.
Investigation has confirmed that NioNio was only one of 18 user names
involved in the scheme. An analysis of NioNio's play on online forum
TwoPlusTwo.com suggests that he won more than $600,000 over four
months.
"Tokwiro is taking full responsibility for this situation and will
immediately begin refunding UltimateBet customers for any losses that
were incurred as a result of unfair play," the company said.
The company also said it is "pursuing its legal options in this
regard." It has not disclosed the names of any individuals involved in
the scandal.
UltimateBet, like its sister site, AbsolutePoker, is licensed and
regulated by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. The commission fined
Tokwiro $500,000 in January as a result of last fall's security breach
at AbsolutePoker.
In the Absolute case, it was "a trusted consultant" of the company
that had manipulated software to view opponents' hole cards. The
company ended up paying $1.6 million to customers who were affected by
the breach.
The gaming commission determined that AbsolutePoker committed four
violations related to client provider authorization. In addition to
the fine, AbsolutePoker became subject to random audits for two years
and was ordered to implement a compliance program.
Neither the name of the trusted consultant nor any legal action
against him or her has ever been disclosed.
Mr. Norton, who was grand chief of Kahnawake from 1980 until 2004, was
a founder and former chief executive of the Mohawk Internet
Technologies hosting facility.
The gaming commission has not issued a prepared statement regarding
UltimateBet's security breach.
On Saturday, Murray Marshall, legal counsel to the gaming commission,
told Canada's National Post that Kahnawake's regulation is among "the
tightest in the world."
"We would obviously prefer to prevent all possibilities of this kind
of thing happening, but no system is infallible," he said. -
Stop the fucking presses folks, foolsgold has a SCOOP.

Admin note -- this post was initially deleted by one of our moderators because it's the 821937489324th post on the exact same thing, but when I saw it, I moved it back to the forum because the OP thinks he was censored and that it was deleted for some reason regarding an agenda of ours. You can find literally thousands of anti-UB posts all over this forum, dating back all the way to 2005. UB-bashing is nothing new here, and we've never stuck our foot in the middle and never will.

That was nice of you Adam. Any idea when the search feature will be up to speed?
-
Yes, this week. It should be working perfectly then too, finally. Just when we finally had it working for the most part, our machine got a virus about two weeks ago. We're having to move to yet another new webserver, and I'm nearly certain there will be no more problems with the search at that time. Im thinking it'll be Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

Can I just merge it with yesterdays ranting anti-UB post?
