Edited By: danimal703 Mar 22nd, 2011 at 03:20 AMObv looking for an answer for this specific situation but in general, this deep into a tournament (sitting 6/30 in this example), what is a good average calling range for this type of shove? He had shoved once (8BB at the time) in the 4+ orbits I'd been a the table. I dont think Im good here and wouldnt call here either way but really just using this as an example to start a discussion as to when the larger stacks need "(need" in the sense that Im playing for first and need to win in marginal spots along the way to do so) to start making these calls. TIA.

I was going to say T9s+ and any pair but I'd like to hear from some players a bit better than myself.
Almost certainly never Q3 though imo -
I would call 55+, JTs, QT+, K8+, A2+, roughly. Maybe that is too tight. As a large stack it is not your job to thin out the field, it is your job to take any +EV spots that come your way. Knocking players out is merely a by-product of this - at least with 30 left. Later on with larger pay jumps, this becomes a consideration.
