See Where You Rank in Virginia

  1. Hey everyone,

I remember in my younger days playing 2/4 limit and realizing there was NO way to beat the rake, unless you ran like Jamie Gold. Is it possible to beat the rake at 3/6, or do I have to move to 4/8 (which I feel like might be a bit out of my roll)? I'm going to Vegas in a month, and I'm going to get bored of playin 1/2 NL all the time. Is 3/6 profitable?

My guess is yes, he's playing live. And yes, find >3/6 if you wanna have a chance beating rake. Also, it's much more common to find 4/8 games than 3/6 games, anywho.

Yeah, this is live, I'm going to Vegas. I've seen a ton of 2/4 games, then some 3/6 and 4/8. I know 2/4 is impossible. Just curious about 3/6

  5. My local casino used to spread 3/6 and I killed the game, was very profitable. They only have 2/4 going now and I can hardly break even. 4/8 or 5/10 would be even easier though to beat the rake if you're good. Good luck.

Oh and that was all before they added the Bad Beat Jackpot, not sure how much that would effect me now.

  9. how do you figure your edge to rake? I only play 1/2 live and have done very well in the past and of course never thought of what my edge was (but the rake did get up there if i recall)

  10. they're talking about limit. if you play 1/2 nl live somewhere touristy with lots of fish it's not difficult to beat the rake.

  11. it all just depends on the games...the bb jackpots.....high hand stuff.....rake....tips...ect....
It would be hard to beat any limit game under 5/10 over a large sample size for any significant amount of money.
You might have winning sessions, but the rake i gonna eat you

You really do have to be playing about 4-8 to beat it...that is of course unless the 3-6 game you pick up is super dee duper loose with many players per street...10-20 FTW!!!

this is pretty much the jist of it. its hard enough to beat $10-20 limit with a $5, 10% rake, much less 5-10. its possible to beat 4-8 or whatever, but sooooo much money gets taken out of the game, that u need to be in a super soft game (which most small games are) to have an edge, and its still not worth the torture, the grind is so brutal. i do know of someone that played the 4-8 limit game in shreveport, LA for a living, who was always referred to as the "best 4-8 player in the world". but if u have the same group of 10 ppl playing a 4-8 limit game forever, only 1 maaaaybe 2 ppl can possibly come out winner, and for that to happen, they need to play very well, and the other players need suck hard and to gamble it up and have multiway big pots etc. because if it is alot of hu or 3way small pots the rake will just eat of the game. u need to have a game thats closer to $100 avg. pot instead of a nitty $50 or so avg. pot.

  15. I believe it, i play a 1/2 home game with a rake near my college where the average buy in is like $80. Its 10% up to $5. After like 7 sessions i've decided that the game isn't beatable long term.

  16. ive always criticized limit as requiring zero skill and being the worst invention of all time, not being able to beat the rake because theres no edge just proves this.

As do I. Some players find NL cash to be the most mind numbing of games. Sit around, 3 bet some, fold more, set mine, etc.

Most players get their feet wet in limit, but those that make a habit of it, will become solid hand readers. Not to mention learning an above average knowledge of equity, ranges, math/theory....if they want to take it seriously that is. And most of us just enjoy the pain and sorrow it brings.
