I've given thought recently to finding a backer mostly as a way of testing myself in higher level MTT's. To this point I've been the near-definition of a bankroll nit. Anyone have any experience being staked by someone with little to zero knowledge of poker?

worst thing i can think off... non poker players just dont understand pokerplayers... and have no graps of the things, how mentaly draining it can be etc etc

Does it make it better/worse if the person is a close friend?
-
Worse. This has bad idea written all over it.

It depends how much the $$ means to your "close" friend. It also depends if they enjoy railing you. If they like to rail, obv they also are learning from you, and can be rewarding for both of you. In general, if it's alot of money they are staking you for, It can put alot of pressure and anxiety to the friendship if you don't win out of the gate. If they know nothing about variance, or running bad, it could be horrid, because they will think your just a degen- loser.
The most important thing for them to understand is your gonna make a final table most likely less than ten % of the time, if your playing 300+ players MTTs. -
I'm certainly not a robot, thus my bankroll nittiness, and I would arrange a very safe amount that he is comfortable with. It doesn't erase the potential anxiety I would feel about risking his money. My friend doesn't know poker but is definitely business/financial savvy and understands risk. Thought this was an interesting question in general, and I'm definitely on the fence about it.

In my particular case, the amount of money involved would be laughable to most of you.

Bad plan man. Non players have zero grasp of what "swings" mean. This will fail along with the relationship. use a staking site to find a backer.
