  1. This consolidated thread is dedicated to discussion on poker books.

    ---

Its been awhile that i have picked up a poker book. With all the changes and new writers in the poker world what books are currently the best? What is the best for Tourny live, Tourny online, Cash live, and Cash online? Best 4 books?
  2. harrington on cash games (cash live or online), super system 2 (great for learning the other games), winning poker tournaments one hand at a time, zen and the art of poker (great for patience and discipline)
  3. Harrington on hold em
    and Doyles supersystem
  4. I got "Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time" for christmas. I believe it has helped me understand a lot more of the game. I would def suggest reading that one. I heard someone say if you buy it vfrom pxf you get 3 free videos too.
  5. ive read a ton of them. my two favorites are 1. The mathematics of poker 2. Harrington on Holdem series.

the first one is pretty much a statistics text book and totally breaks down EV and exploitave play. the second one is definelty the best bread and butter guide to winning a MTT

  6. "Stop shouting in thread titles" - by me.

It's a good read, look into it.
  7. yep i agree that book does wonders

they go in progressive order. the first one discusses general pre flop opening and calling ranges from the various posistions concentrating on the beginning and middle of a tournament. the second book is about inflection points and important make or break decisions late in tournaments. I think the second one is where he describes M but that might be the first. I dont remeber the third but i think the first 2 are the important ones

  12. ok Thanks pikappraider. I appreciate your advice.
  13. Just wondering what a good book would be. i have never read a full poker book just lots of blogs and stuff on the internet. I love MTT's but im only profitable playing 9 man sitters. Looking for a book to really get into depth about sng play. anyone know any good reads?
  14. Kill Everyone is good...give that a shot

Told myself to read Harrington on hold-em volume 1 before I played another session. I finished today and have hit 1 FT and just in general winning today. Now I have to read volume 2, but I highly recommend reading volume I. I've read super systems but I believe I learned more through Harrington by participating the problems and toanswer the question to myself before proceeding to read the difference in your play vs his play.

Can't wait to read vol. II.
  16. Surprised no one has mentioned "Let There Be Range" by Cole South and Tri Nguyen. Def a very good book for playing online. I think it's marketed as "crushing SSNL/MSNL hold em games". Little pricey at $1850 I guess.

  17. :D just got HoH vol1 , Super System, and Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time on my doorstep yesterday, Christmas came early at my house. I flipped through each a bit last night and I don't think I'll be dissappointed. Recognizing a lot of things I've learned on p5 but pumped to get into even more of the "why" side of things and applying it to the tables.

I think the third one is the workbook. And that is pretty helpful too. Analyzes your plays in certain situations and gives you feedback on the other choices too. It's a great series, but just remember poker is always changing, so a lot he discusses could already be outdated. But they are great reads imo
  19. tournament poker sklansky
    the only one i have
  20. oh and thank you to the admin/mod who removed the torrents... that's very pro of you

    www.amazon.com

it's not free to publish a book and certainly people like to be rewarded for their time and effort.

There are two SNG bibles: Sit-N-Go Strategies (I think) by Colin Moshman & Secrets of Sit-N-Go's by Phil Shaw. Jennifear (a highly respected teacher) likes the Shaw book best, but I think I liked the Moshman one a little better. Either are very good.

you're such a walking failure... no respect whatsoever for someone else's time or talent or rights... clearly you've never produced or held anything of value in your life that was your own and you have no concept of said value...

mods will you please ban this idiot for linking and advertising stolen property?
  27. Totally agree that the guy offering to send out copies of these books is a tool. Some of the people who have written poker books that are being pirated are my friends and I know how much work they put in to these books. Writing a book is a ton of work and you are screwing the author when you give that stuff away.
  28. So should I read Kill Phil then Kill Everyone, or does it even matter about sequence on those books.
  29. Kill Everyone is far superior. Gethte Revised Elky Edition, his commentary is quite good. I n Europe the book is actually called Kill Elky, but it's the same book. Kill Phil is just okay.
