  1. Wondering if I can tap into the collective wisdom of the forum on this one and make sure I'm not leading this guy astray.

One of the regulars at my home game finally decided he wanted to seriously learn how to play. I've started him on the Harrington NL Tourney books to learn the fundamentals. Once he has that stuff down, he'd like to learn online SnGs, which is what I tend to focus my time on.

I've been following the teachings of Moshman's Sit 'n Go Strategy book. Is there a better first SnG book out there for someone to read, or is Moshman the place to start?

Thanks in advance for any advice...
  2. IMO, Moshmans book is the best out there pertaining to sng's...until Jennifear writes hers of course.
  3. www.jennifear.com and if not any nash icm caluclator website

  4. BTW, I do highly respect Jennifear's SnG prowess and try to read a lot of what she writes.

In this case though, I want to put an actual book in his hands, rather than having him read Internet resources (for now).

  5. I found a similar thread where someone suggested Phil Shaw's "Secrets of Sit 'n' Gos: Winning Strategies for Single-table Poker Tournaments" as the SnG book to read. Any thoughts on that one for a new player? I hadn't heard of it. Also, is that worth a read for someone who's already implementing Moshman-style play?

  6. Hmmm, I spent some time reading reviews of the Shaw book. If the book bills itself as "how to build a $200 bankroll to $100,000 in one year purely in Sit’n’go events", then I'm guessing it's more hype than substance, but I'm hoping someone who's read it can say something about it.

  7. Anybody know what name Moshman plays sngs under?
  8. has anyone achieved this feat--b4
  9. I love Moshman's book, but Phil Shaw's book is very good, and I believe the best out there at the moment.
  10. Jenn--wat in ur opinion makes his book the best
  11. I'm reading Phil Shaw's book at the moment and imo it's a very good read.
  12. He goes into detail about the finer points of the game in a manner that is easy for everyone to understand. His chapter on the limitations of ICM shows how mmuch understanding he has about the game.
  13. Thanks for the replies everyone. I just ordered the Shaw book based on your comments
