I just started to grind online MTTs over a year ago. Back then I was only playing on Full Tilt and Bodog and didn't know if I was going to have success or not. Fast forward to the present and I currently play over 8 different sites with moderate success, but still missing the BIG SCORE!! I have a different screen name on each site and my various screen names aren't linked anywhere online. Therefore, sometimes I wll be playing the same person on 2 different sites but they have no clue they are playing the same guy. Does the advantage outweigh being known in the pocketfives community where anyone can just look you up to get info on you?? I personally thought it was better to be unknown, but recently I think being known is better. People who look up my stats on Full Tilt seem like they play worst against me, because they know I am a winning player. I also have to admit that in the past I would play worst against ranked p5s players and would give them too miuch respect in certain spots. After all, everyone gets dealt two holecards don't they:)
Which side is more profitable?? I would love anyone's feedback on this and thank you in advance!

Id say being unknown would be more profitable, unless youre playing low limit stuff then Id say it wouldnt matter.

Recognition is great....that's why we started the site to begin--to recognize great online poker players. A lot of people who have been ranked highly here have used that status to propel themselves into lucrative business opportunities, which is awesome too. But when it comes down to it, you deserve to be recognized for your accomplishments, and that's what we're about here.

Better to be ranked. If you're playing medium to high volume and doing well, the other good players will take notice and have notes on you etc. etc.
So might as well get ranked/recognized in the hopes you can add a backing deal or some other perk to yourself. -
what?

It doesnt matter, everyone that plays mtts is terrible and doesnt even think before they click a button

although if your opponents aren't going to adjust, then it doens't matter anyway

I think this might be the first legit Gags answer in like 3 months...

I know it's not the same as a p5 ranking, but I think it would be VERY profitable to be a Full Tilt Red pro simply because of the morons chasing the bounty. I've seen people call off 12BB shoves from a red pro with 8 4 trying to catch the bounty. Not only would doubling from a short stack be a piece of cake, but I feel like players in general will call lightly, at least in medium buy-ins.

Anonymous...then when u play top 100 players they think ur a std donk and have no clue about what ur doing, or u don't know anything bout how they play...then u own them and in process get owned cuz they run just awesome.

its almost impossible to be truly annonymous these days with stats tracking sites and software. but in general, being anonymous would be way better im my opinion especially if you are a lag player. nothin sucks more than being the new loose guy on the scene who's taking down lots of tourneys, only to suddenly be 3, 4, 5 bet pretty light because everyone knows youre super loose.

My initial reaction was to disagree with Adam and say that being unknown was better.
But, I think from the game, I'm not sure it matters. If your playing another great player, and your unknown and they are known, I think that helps. However, I think all it does is change how people play you. People want to bluff a great player and show it. People want to beat you, and will take chances to do it.
Sure, as a known player, you will have to deal with people gloating on you when their A10 sucks out against your KK. But, guess what, players are more willing to get their money in bad in spots, as opposed to trying to play a typical game. They now want to beat you.
Once you adjust, I would think being known is the same at the table, but with the added benefit of being known. So, I think it's slightly advantageous to be known in the long run.
