  1. I was watching a cash game yesturday and the players were.

    Gus H
    phil helm
annie duke and 3 other not so well known player.

The game was 200/400 nl (in think)

I think changing your game up is part of the game but these guys are playing J,J and when a flop comes 2,7,8 and betting $1700 into a $4500 pot, giving anyone odds to call to catch there flush, straight.

They also limp and mini raise with J,4 off suit.

Now they've made alot more then I have so Im' not calling them fish. Just wondering if this is smart play in the lower levels like this. Some of the hands they play are down right terrible.

All this coming from a laggy cash game player but NOT that laggy!

    Any thought out there??
  2. I think the smaller bets relate to controlling the size of the pot. For instance, if they get raised and think they ran into a set they'll be able to minimize their losses in the hand. Limp min raise with J4 off I don't see where a play like that makes any sense...especially not a min raise. That play seems a little fishy regardless of who it is.
  3. If the stacks are deep enough there is somewhat of an excuse to play any hand. because you could possibly stack them with a small investment.

As far as the little bets, i think they are just get imformation on the cheep. I was reading shaniac's blog and he was talking about Phil H. making the small bets, and he said they are not afraid to make HUGE calls. I think they trust their reading ability so much that they don't mind betting small, and looking weak, because if someone comes over the top, they have the stones to call them down. You can watch them play limit and cap it all the way, but fold to the 3 bet on the river sometimes. they can read good enough (in their minds) to disregard the fact that they need to be right 19/20 times.

High Stakes Poker on GSN you see them calling pre-flop with all sorts of crap. the stacks are so deep, and all of those players think they are the best. I am sure everyone of them thinks they can outplay the others, so they are looking to either make a big hand, or pick up the pot with a bluff.

risking 3-5 big blinds pre flop is a fair price to have a chance at over 200, regardless of the holdings.

BUT BUT BUT i really think they take it overboard. but who am i to say. i am a nickle dime nl guy, and my bankroll is sbout the size of their big blind.
