who thinks this has a shot??

No chance in hell. Until shithead is out of the White House, we're stuck with what we've got. I'm pinning my hopes on 2009.

"also calls for a system to be in place that would tax and regulated all real-money games"
This is the main issue and probably the reason why online poker was banned in the first place.
Hearing a politician saying poker was banned to protect our kids makes me want to vomit. -
evidently, you are not aware of a 2/3 majority veto over ride in the senate
-
^^^^

I fu**ing hate our hypocritical government! They say that the reason for banning online poker was due to it being a funding source for terrorists...But suddenly when they think they may have a way of getting some money from it they forget that they are helping "terrorists" get money. Politicians blow!
-
Yes because even though they couldn't get a 2/3rds majority to override the war funding veto to keep the benchmarks in, online *poker* will be the hot button issue that tosses partisanship aside, and will make all of congress sing and dance and have lots of hugs and puppies.
So many laws introduced never see the light of day, wake me up when it's out of committe and before the entire legislative body. -
Well I guess its only another 4 and a half weeks before the "Moment of Truth" arives. Remember on October 13th or whatever it was Bush Signed the Port Security bill and they said we had 270 days before they would try to enforce the new law. According to simple arithmetic, that means in early July we will all either be or not be fucked. :\ I'm hoping for the latter obv.

wtf does the war have to do with poker
this bill can get attahed to another bill
i seem to recall this is how this shit started in the first place
bush isnt the one standing in the way of poker...........sure he isnt going to approve any online gambling bills, but if it has enough force in congress bush cant stop it -
The implications of this bill extend WAY beyond online poker. IF i'm understanding the concept correctly, it aims to redefine poker as a game of skill in general - online or not. This is a major curveball and would establish a precedent leading to states rights issues and headaches for reps in states where poker is banned.
Now, I don't have a law degree but it any bill that goes so far as redefining the government's stance on poker in general is gonna have a really hard time getting through. -

With the millions of dollars being pumped into the lobbying effort by casinos, it's only a matter of time before... What? Casinos aren't doing shit? Must be the lousy margins. Face it, until the Dems get back into the White House, nothing happens. Oh, and to Bill Fist et al - fuck you again. You and your jerkoff funda-wackos not only alienated off every Republican under the age of 40 (including me), you guaranteed a liberal White House next term. Who the fuck was your advisor?
