I'm trying to win the 109 horse on stars for the 4th day in a row today. Although its a small field tournament these days (40 entrants on average) its a nice lil run. also up 20k overall in the last week and a half in various forms (Badugi, Razz, 2-7, 7game, HORSE, OMHL).

true ALL AROUND PLAYA GL Holdem is over rated
-
Pretty sure HORSE is all limit. 8 game has NLHE

Bwahaha good response...anyway that's pretty sick OP...loved that tourney for a lil mix up in the nl mtt variety. But I do have to say that I just know general rules of the game and not all that solid, but limit tourneys are the easiest fricken things ever if you have 1/2 brain...plus small fields are awesome.

One thing I know about limit games I've seen compared to nl...it takes ONE stupid donk to knock you out of a nl mtt...like the biggest favorite you can be pre is close to what...8:1ish? And postflop, obvioiusly you can have them drawing dead blah blah blah, but usually they have 2-5+ outs at the worst, which is still the same...with nl structures/field sizes/on and on, you are all in several times in an mtt. In limit games, ur never really all in, and when u are, you usually have it in a better situation (in 7 street games and an opponent not knowing how to play a game can get it in more "dead" it seems). Plus, ppl don't bluff as much in lower stakes limit games...they just don't know what they are doing and call more often. Im assuming it's more like nl was years ago when the average "good" player crushed souls easily. So therefore, a player who knows when he is/isn't a favorite can jam the pot with fishies just donating...i mean, razz players who call with a K in the door and 89 in the hole, and u have a234 showing, it's pretty hard to lose lol

This dude is smart.
If you want to last in this game, you have to adapt. 3 years ago I switched to playing everything besides holdem. Best economic decision of my life perhaps.....or I coulda been really sick at nl and won way more. lol whatever the case is on that, I'm fine since playing one game for me the same day everyday would get so boring that I'd prob dislike this job even more. I play various games on several tables at once, that rotate. So I don't get bored. Plus, because of many of the reasons mentioned above, I have a huge edge over most of the players at the tables. My advice, learn a new game. Start with razz. It's juicy right now online and would be a simple introduction to the format of 7 card games. -
Eh, that's cool, and it's a solid brag. Let's be honest though, you even hinted at this, all the money (far as mtts are concerned) is in NLHE. If you're good enough to crush mixed game mtts, you'd probably be making more money if you concentrated on NLHE mtts.
I kinda wish it was move viable, because I enjoy all different kinds of formats, and you can find me playing a lot of the mixed game stuff come WCOOP/SCOOP/FTOPS. As I was learning NLHE in college I was also learning just about any variant I was aware of at the time (was sort of ringleader of group of players so had a lot of sway in what we played). I was probably better at LO8, PLO8 and Stud8 than I was at NLHE, for at least a year or two. Right now I'd really like to be able to play PL5CD and the Ante Up! format of NLHE, but there's no money in it. My highest ROI by format is HU PLO mtts, but again, there's no money in it.
@ bef - Limit games take a different kind of patience and resilience that can be difficult/annoying to muster at times. Yes, you will find people that don't realize they're boardlocked, or overplay a one-way hand against your freeroll, but most of the value comes from brute forcing a gazillion small edges. In NLHE mtts, especially when playing against vastly inferior opponents, we enjoy getting a lot of value from large edges that we have a lot of control over. With limit mixed game mtts, a lot of that control is lost. -
there are poker players, then there are "poker players" , and you are the latter sir...well done!
-
Congrats Ryon! I remember some drama about your accounts a while back, but I followed ya once in a while and you were always crushing the mixed games!
keep it up
maybe this winter i will inquire about lessons. -

Get some Ryon. Btw if anyone fucks w/ Ryon he might throw you off a deck. just sayin
-
being good at a non holdem (or maybe at a push omaha) form of the game is kind of like being a good american rugby player.
well done, but at the end of the day no one cares.
