just read about it briefly on 2+2. What exactly is it? When and why is it used?

say someone is holding an overpair and the river brings a 3rd suit for a possible flush...sometimes people make a small bet on river instead of checking or making a real bet if they are scared of the flush just to see where they stand...this is a blocking bet, it can be used to prevent a bluff sometimes, but i usually see it and decide that i can get away with a bluff even easier

Of course, there are those of us that use this small bet on the river to induce a huge bluff because we are trying to give the impression that we are throwing out a blocking bet when in reality we are trying to value bet/induce a huge bluff.
