  1. Hi, guys. I seem to run into this situation once awhile and sometimes I go out of satellite confused whether I made correct play or not so please give me any advice.

On a 6 handed ftop satellite, $55 into $1050 where 13 seats are paid and 14th, and 15th get $2xx and $1xx cash, I was about 9th in chips w 30BB and 19 players are left. Two are well below average stack but still have some fold equity if they push so this is definitely not a "wait around" period but also not a "nobody can call unless they have AA, KK" period either.

I was playing relatively tighter side as I open folded SB and button many times. I 3 bet shoved or stole blinds (w 2.5x) successfully couple of times past 2 orbits and this hand came up.

I picked up 77 on SB and everyone folds to me and big blind is about 28BB stack who had played relatively loose agg and lost some chips past few orbits.

If I picked up 77 on button~utg, I might have 2.5x, and fold to all except short stacks.

But since this Big blind is capable of shoving all in lighter than 77, I decided to open shove.
When I made a play, I felt he might still call w AQoff+, AJs+, 88+ so my equity is only around 35% when called but he will rarely have those big hands and chips I will gain (BB+antes) are valuable to be safer for next orbit or two in which case couple more players might be busted and get to be in real bubble stage of the game.

Well this time, I ran into TT and soon after busted. In the past, I ran QQ into KK, KK into AA, JJ into AA, etc. Those hands too good to not raise but too awkward to raise then face 3 bet shove (30BB stack). # of busting cases are far fewer than # of times I successfully stole blinds of course but memory remains and I want to find out whether there is any leaks in my play on that situation.

    Thanks in advance.

I spend more time telling everyone else what to do than posting my own questions...but I found this spot interesting, with several options. What does everyone do given the following reads?

UTG is passive...limped into quite a few pots, and willing to fold to a raise or post-flop action.
UTG+1 is LAGgy. Stack has been rollercoastering up and down the whole time.
MattyDaCobra is one of the best mid-stakes PLO8 MTT players. I don't think I've ever played NLHE with him before, but I'm sure he's more than adequate.

  2. yeah interesting situation indeed; gonna check out what other guys are saying; with up to 21bb i also open shove; with 28.. i m not sure really
  3. Sound weak but I think my line here would be to stall limp here if he checks min bet flop proceed from there.

If he raises pre you can ship if you read him as laggy and being capable of raise folding.

    Fold to shove.

I think you're very likely to win the seat with your position and stack size and no need to take aggressive lines with marginal hands.

Running QQ and KK into bigger pairs is pretty coolerish though.

  4. Playing statties:
    A. You are not playing to have all the chips. B. You are playing to win a seat.
You don't need to play marginal hands aggressively OOP. You don't even need to play a hand that will cripple you (versus a large stack).
If you elect to play raise to 2.5 to 3x bb; shut down if you get resistance. [77] is not a hand to go to war with un-improved.

I would recommend open folding marginal hands OOP versus large stacks.

Busting out; with a marginal hand in this situation; is a catastrophe when you don't have to play to get your seat.
