I was figuring there would be a ton of players for this Sunday's 10K WPT main event, especially since the $5M guarantee was announced, but now I'm having my doubts. It seems all the pokerstars pro's are over in Europe for the Barcelona Open, today is only day 2 there, and many of them (including Negraneu) are just going to stay there for the WSOPE. Is it even possible the guarantee won't be made? They need 521 players to make the guarantee (last year they had 560). Attendance for the pre-lims is about what it was last year, except only 228 for the 5K today as opposed to 284 last year.
I was hoping for 600+. This is my first 10K tourney I'll be participating in, so whatever happens, happens. What do you all think?
You worried yet Tab? -
I think a possible overlay would be a good thing, no?

Some notes from the tournament:
1 - Holding over registration for for an extra 3.5 hours was way out of line. I understand they made a guarantee, but hey, 2.75 hours is PLENTY of time for anyone to register. I could have slept and extra 6 hours! Do the honorable thing and eat the loss (which they did, $46,400 to be exact). They were 5 players short.
2 - That $46,400 wasn't a problem though because of the increased juice over previous years tourneys. This year was $9600+$400, last year was +300. So the extra $100 * the 516 entrants was $51,600, enough to cover their "loss".
3 - That +400 is the highest I ever saw for a $10K event (other than most Vegas tourneys where they do take a % for the dealers). The US Poker Classic at the Taj is +300, foxwoods is +300, etc. Then they make sure to announce to the players just before the bubble burst that no extra money was taken from the pot for the dealers. Maybe they would have more players without the extra $100.
4 - No one seems to know the rule on what to do with the odd chip on a split pot. First time it goes to the player with the highest card (the player was not the first player to the left of the button). I asked if that was correct and the dealer asked the floor who was standing nearby and they agreed. Later in the tourney it went to the player closest to the left of button. I mentioned the previous ruling and Tab (the TD) said that it goes to the left of button. You guys need to agree on a rule here and stick with it.
5 - It was an extremely sick structure, don't change that, unless you want to make it even more sick!
6 - Plan ahead, make sure there is nothing going on in Europe at the time. The field was one of the weakest I have ever seen for a $10K event (No Negraneu, Ivey, Raymer, Doyle or Todd, Harmon, Hellmuth, Duke, ETC). There must have been close to 40+ top pro's you would expect to see at this tourney, but instead most are in Europe having just played in the Barcelona Open (which had 619 entrants) and waiting for the WSOPE to start.
I had a great time though, lasted until the 3rd level on Day 2, finishing around 190th. Hopefully I''ll be back for the Winter Open Main Event in January. -
Didn't see too much 2.5X raises, most were 3X or more. And in the approximate 375 hands I played, I did not have AA or KK at all! That's just gross, glad I made it as far as I did.
