So the other day I realized that all 8 of the other players at my table were bots. I started experimenting with different strategies and found a few that worked pretty well. I am interested in doing some research on exactly what the best strategy is for a table like this. (They aren't hard to find, look for a plr/flop percent that is ridiculously low.) I start Statistics grad school next year, so I have a strong quantitative background and am familiar with research procedures. I've been playing poker live for about 7 years, but not so much online. Also, finals end this week, so from the beginning of next week until the new year, I have nothing but free time to play poker and research this. I think this could provide an opportunity to make a lot of money for relatively little risk. It'd be nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of, preferably someone with at least some research background or a lot of online experience. If anyone's interested, send me a message.

So, you found a table where you were the only human player, but rather than report the bots, you decide to devise a plan to exploit them?
You experimented with different strategies and found a few that worked pretty well. How big was the sample size on each experiment? Your a stats student, right?
You might want to consider learning to write in paragraph form before entering grad school. I'm not sure where you will be attending, but paragraphs seem to be universally accepted. -

I didn't say it was a well performed experiment, but when there is a computer playing cards, certain patterns emerge. Min raising 8 hands in a row and winning the pot preflop all 8 times just doesn't happen in a legit game, especially at the micro stakes I play, where everyone has to see a flop. The reason I posted this was to more formally investigate it. As for paragraph form, I was writing a quick note to see if anyone else wanted to look into this, not a senior thesis or a letter to the prime minister of Zimbabwe, but thanks for the advice tool.

What site?
What stakes?
How exactly did you determine they were bots?
EDIT: You've been playing poker live for 7 years and you're 22 years old? -
pokerstars, .25 .50, there was a pattern to their play. Anytime they raised pf, they followed with a potsized flop bet. If I called, they check the turn, when I bet the min on the turn they call. When I bet the min on the river they fold. This happened 13 times over the hour and a half I first noticed it.
I obviously haven't been playing in a casino that long, but I started playing a 50 max cash game twice a week before the whole 'Moneymaker effect' and yes, I had to ride my bicycle there. -
Did they all have names like skjds and show location in China? The thread the other day about those players abusing bonus with what were probably bots comes to mind. Don't know how you'd get into the table though, unless they thought they could just keep busting the 9th player with their 8 bots...
-
Honestly, I didn't pay much attention to the locations. I looked into what it took to get a bot, and the first one that showed up on google advertised that it would take care of getting bonuses for a player, so I'm sure that's what a lot of people use them for, but with the ease of getting one, I dunno that they would have to be from China. Also, the bot site bragged about features that made it difficult for the poker rooms to detect their use and that they would take aggressive steps in the future to ensure this as the poker sites made a more serious attempt to ban them.

Great level...
Pareto principle here, the 80-20 rule, lets say only 20% of the internet were bots, would it not be a better use of your time to understand how to beat the 80% who are not...hmmmmm. And what happens when you get into a 3-way pot with both a bot and a human...its a doozy! -
Are you sure you're not confusing "bot" with "donk?"
-
What if we're the robots and they're the humans???
That should keep the potheads busy for a while -
I would come up with a basic formula that took in to account "Starting Hand Range" (The top ten hands) VS how often you should be delt these.. Then check the hand histories and see if the Numbers are close...for the Players in question.. The larger the sample size the Better...
-
top ten hands...
1326 distinct possible combinations of two hole cards from a standard 52-card
(128/1326)*100=9.653%
There are 169 nonequivalent starting hands in hold 'em
(10/169)*100=5.917%
maybe been a while since I graduated
