I dont know if this has been posted yet, but read the 2+2 thread.
  2. if yo ucant beat a bot, you suck

  3. unless it's a gbmantis bot, then your screwed.
  4. This is SNG's though, the average SNG player is a losing player, so having to plaly against winning bots is bad for your winrate.

  5. I've ran across a few at the $11 level as well. I posted about it a while back but got the usual "smart a$$" replies saying no way. People just have to accept that they are out there. The only good thing is if you are patient with them, you'll beat them every time.
  6. how can u tell if they r bots? and what exactly is a bot??
  7. A bot is an automated program that plays poker for you. Go to the OP link and you can read about it.
  8. how the hell do you interface a program with a poker site and have it play for you? damn are people that lazy or is there something i am missing here? i think that if you play solid poker, bots will be beat for the most part. A program can only do so many things, it can't think for you. but what the hell, i don't play on PP anymore anyways.
  9. I have heard stories from people one person in particular using bots at the limit games. Why you ask limit is basically all math not as many variables involved as no limit. These being bluffing and the use of larger raises. So yes there are bots out there.
  10. A friend of mine told me he read an article about them. He said one of the people that created one was able to use his at only low-LIMIT games. He'd let it play overnite and it would come out ahead about $30-$40 a nite. The article said he wasn't able to use it at the higher limits though because the players are better and mix up their play alot more.
  11. Rather than disregard the post, and semi-flame the OP, please read the link.

    The thread progresses like this:

I think I've noticed some bots.
    No you didn't loser.
Yeah, I did, take a look.
    Hmm.
    Here are some more bots.
    Are you sure?
    Look for yourself.
    Hmm.
    I've noticed more.
I think this guy is on to something.
I know this guy is on to something.
There are absolutely bots on party.
If you can't beat bots, you lose.
Well, they are 45%ITM, so they're are winning your money. It's completely unethical.
Great point. Any winning they do would be wrong, and against the spirit of the game.
    Who will contact Party?

Okay, someone has to do it.
    I'll write a form letter...

...and so on. I just wanted to give you the idea that it's a very long thread, but that they do indeed seem to identify a ring of bots, but they go into great detail including screen names.
  12. I've been playing 11 to 33 dollar Speed SNGs on party and haven't noticed any players that look like they are bots. Could be wrong, though.

I don't much about this subject but my opinion is that if you observe the table closely when it is short-handed, you should be able to detect the bot's patterns and kick it's ass.
  13. Bots can team, making instant calculations, leaving the most experienced players at a major disadvantage, party and Paradise scan for bots with software, the geeks get around it easily enough, but other sites like UB and stars, don't run the anti bot software. Bots can't be as effective at NL, too many variables.
  14. An ex poker pro from up here in canada(phD studentnow) made a poker bot and he brought it to vegas to play hu vs phil laak.. after the match which Phil won - Phil said that the bot was absolutely ridiculous.. and that with a few more tweaks the bot could have won the match. this was on the Discovery channel a few weeks ago - def scared me because this is a TERRIBLE thing to bring to the online poker community.. there are obviously people(scumbags) out their who would pay good money for a bot that "could beat a pro"...
  15. I heard that Sheets is a bot.
  16. lol
  17. "Laak battled the winning robot in a three-hour Limit game.

This was the match against the bot champion of the Golden Palace bot vs bot event, has he played a second match
  18. ty jemenz. I was convinced it was NL for some reason.. obv wrong.. ty for the link
  19. apparently they are effective at 22$ speed SNGs.... rough estimations think that the bots (about 12 of em in total, always playing in the same seat of SNGs so they never play with one another) are raking in about 1000$ / day doing this. This chit is crazy.

  21. Even with all the new MTT and SNG players in the poker world, I'm still surprised at the number of people that don't seem to have any idea tjhat there are bots playing online poker. Bots have been around as long as online poker itself, even long before. Mike Caro built one in the early 80's (if anyone remembers dates better let us know) and challenged many top pros to play against it. I don't believe the bot (ORAC) ever won a match, but can't remember this for sure either.

The first bots I began seeing at online poker was in 99-00 on Paradise. They took an ill advised shot at the big games there and got crushed before moving down in limits rather quickly. I don't know if the bots ever found a limit they could beat back then or not.

Bots are not much of a threat to online games at the present, but as computer technology progresses it seems it will be a major problem at some point in the future. Many believe that the poker rooms themselves use bots to fill the games at slow times and even debated the bots could see everyone's cards or cheats in some way. I have never seen a slither of evidence to back up the last claim however.

The problems for the bot operator as I understand it is the great amount of time to set it up and the fact that most can only yield small profit margins at the lower limits.
  22. ... not to mention that if you get caught cheating you will lose "your" hard earned (thieved) money.

... of that's right, and a bot writer / user is also a schmuck who steals and cheats, too.

  23. I worry that as the programmers progress, eventually they will build winning bots. Ones that are harder to detect. I don't think we are there yet.
  24. The bots in that thread were already winning an estimated $1000/day before party shut them down. The future is now.
  25. superb summary
