MRTravers has 15 seconds left to act - I assume a straight would have raised me on that board. Flat calling leaves so many options to be counterfeited. I was thinking I check to keep the pot small, but then he makes a bet of say 400 and I call. I'm going to have it all-in on the river anyways.
    MRTravers bets 390
    cashleymo raises to 1,200

  2. Don't sweat it man, you played it fine. I would have played it the same way because I know how often the scare card comes on the river, so I would have waited to fill up OR wait until the scare card DOESNT come before I committed my stack. The only other way to play it I think is to check/call the turn and then it would be easier to get away from on the river so yes, I agree with you keeping the pot small.

This is not "playing scared" or "playing passive"..

and it's also not "playing to lose/letting him catch up" because well.. franlly the OP needed to catch up, lol

#1 if you bet too much, you can only get called if you're beat
#2 if you bet a normal amount, you're going to price whoever has a K in - and you know they're going
to call anyway so wait to fill up or till the scare card doesn't hit to put the $ in

    and last but not least...

always leave yourself room to get out of the hand. it's very very easy to get counterfeited in poker
