Anybody know this guy personally? I'm watching a 2006 wsop sat event I recorded and he's acting like a complete ass at the table. Why is it that these internet pros never really know how to act around real people?
-
well it's because alot of internet pros spend the majority of their time/life on the internet. You can't build your social skills via AIM. What I find amusing is when alot of these guys say "heyy man don't take things so serious, this is just the internets" what the majority of them fail to realise is that their entire life revolves around the net.
-
i'm pretty sure he said in an interview he basically never plays online....
that is just his personality -
or you could have 3,000+ posts on an internet message board and then criticize the social lives of internet players

3k posts in a year is ~10 posts a day(even less). Can take me literally 10minutes to post in 10threads.........your statement is simply incomparable to the grind of online pros. Even friends of mine that are online pros concede the fact that it hurts their social life. I don't know why you're getting so defensive....

In one of the WSOP ME episodes this year he talks about how horrible he sounded back then and realized how unhealthy his lifestyle was. He said he had been changing some things about himself.

I thought he was a POS from the interviews a couple years ago, but we can all grow and change and it seemed from the recent WSOP interview that Cantu is doing just that. -
Good deal. This is what I was looking for. A lot of these "internet pro's" give everyone else a bad name. Glad to see he wised up.

Cantu is a mega douche regardless if he plays on the internet or not.
-
An asshole is an asshole, where they play poker is completely irrelevant.

I have under 500 posts in over 3 years...and i post rather frequently. 3k in a year is a ton and for you to criticize online players for what you call a lack of social life is flat out LOLable. That was Cantu's first big live final table and he was clearly just excited/douchy, just like hevad was during the main event he final tabled. Now that both of them have been in the game for a while they have obviously matured and are more reserved at the table.

he said in an interview this year for the wsop that he was embarrassed about the way he acted and has turned over a new leaf and matured quite a bit since the 06 wsop..

lol believe me 3k is not a ton, especially when 90% of your posts are in OT. Unreal how defensive you fellas get when someone states that the majority of online pros social lives are hindered by the amount of time they spend on the internet. It's pure fact, I spend no more than ~60 minutes on the internet(which is mainly browsing p5's) if I'm not playing poker or what not, can I ask how many hours you think your regular online grinder spends on the internet???(srsly can I get an answer?) A friend of mine wakes up at 1pmish my time, he is usually hittin the sack at around 6, 7 or sometimes 8am. It has a severe effect on his social life and he rarely can afford days off. I know for a fact 4 or 5 other pros do more or less this same thing. Face it, the majority of online pros cannot afford to have a hectic social life, it's just not +ev lol. Also I would welcome you to come into OT once in a while, have a look at some other posters post count, some ppl have 10k posts in a year.......3k is nada, not tht it matters.

Yep its definitely true that he did not tip the dealers after he won the Bay 101 shooting star...he was saying that money for the dealers was taken out of the prizepool and when Matt Savage informed him that this wasn't true he said that he doesn't give a damn and didnt tip a single penny. I know this because i live in san jose and play at bay 101 pretty much every day and know almost every single dealer and tournament director and they have all confirmed the same...he is big time douche!!!!!!
-
3000 post in one year is a lot of post. Internet regulars often have poor social skills that can be worked on. 3000 post in one year is a shit load of post.
-
What's the normal amount that you're expected to tip in those circumstances?
-
Met Brandon and talked to him and Jennifer Leigh(Jennicide) when they were dating. I also know a couple people from NW that have known him for a long time. I wouldn't say he is outgoing but he seemed very nice and genuine. I'm not going to talk about him tipping/not tipping b/c I don't think whether you tip or not makes you an asshole and I know there were extenuating circumstances with Bay 101's $ withheld and such.
I also like it when someone is able to admit they made a mistake and he said that he hated the way he came off. I believe that was one of his first live events if i'm not mistaken and so what he got caught up in the moment. I mean Chino came off kinda bad telling Philips that he can't believe he called with 66 and this and that and Chino is a hellacool cat. I would really think twice before judging someone off of what ESPN chooses to edit or everyone that plays on tv will soon be labeled as assholes imo.

Its been my experience from watching alot of poker and meeting some of the players that the internet players handle themselves live alot better than the live pros.. Thats in general.. Always exceptions.
-
it wasn't phillips that called with the 66. It was the mega douche bishop

I forgot about the Bay 101 incident, heh, it makes the ruling that the TD made in regards to Losev's string bet make more sense now.

arent you the guy who's mom sniffed his cock?

it was still a good call by bishop, and chino sucked out large for his tourney life. it was a huge over bet by chino on the flop. bishop totally picked him off

I have known Brandon for a while through a mutual friend. The guy was hella grounded before he made a ton of money playing cards when he lived up here in the NW. Kicked it with him a few times in Cali and in Vegas and he is still just as chill. Guy is def not a douche thats for sure.
