Pre Flop is fairly standard, we have all been activley raising the button, so I obviously have him on a wide range of hands here, with the pre flop odds and implied odds if I flop well calling in mandatory.
I check call a continuation bet with bottom pair, standard, when we are this deep I am not commiting a huge amount to see what his action will be on the turn, if he has air he will check the turn, and if i dont improve my hand and he bets again I can credit him with a hand like Ax etc,
My plan changed when I made two pair on the river, now I am hoping he has Ax, The problem he has is I could of easily check called a bet with Q10 and made a straight. I check hoping he will bet all aces again, so I can check raise him. Its pretty sick if he flopped A9 or AK, but I check raise may just get flatted by him as he fears the Q10 turned straight.
Once he checks the turn I make a smallish value bet on the river for my two pair, I had him on a weak hand, I hoped he could call m with Ax Kx. Or possibly a random lower two pair, he could of played a better two pair very passivly but I still have to bet this spot I also put a value bet of 1/3 of the pot to try and entice a steal if he had garbage, I like my hand at this point and if he has a hand that cannot win a showdown i have left him room to come over the top with plenty of fold equity.
The huge raise all in and its decision time....Now I know he cannot have Ax Kx etc as his hand has showdown value and this would be turning his hand into a bluff. Once again would you put your whole stack in there after a bet OOP with two pair? If its a value raise what does he think I have that can call him? The nuts at this point is Q10... I could easily have this so unless he has it himself, its just a huge raise and one that doesnt look like it wants to be called. If he had a lock hand I would of thought he would raise to say 120-200K to make a call more sure. However I have plenty of fold equity I could fold and wait for a better spot? I went through the range of hands I thought he could have bet for value and expected a call:
Flopped sets? Doesnt look like it AA KK 99 or even a turned JJ would bet the turn with all the draws out there, a rivered set of 6's would suck as this is near on impossible to put him on.
A higher two pair? Possible but then unless you have AK or AJ your two pair could be weak....even two pair hands I would personally raise smaller to say 150K so I would have room to fold if someone came bk over the top as you could credit them with a set or a straight.
Q10 is possible..
However from his point of view I have check called the flop checked the turn and small bet the river, I do appear weak. I had been winning alot of hands without a showdown, and although this player had not been making many moves this felt like a move to me. I was laying him huge odds to call a river bet with a weaker hand, there are alot of hands in his pre flop range that completly miss that board bet the flop and then check the turn, which he could turn into a bluff on the river, he was a good player who could have looked at that board and said he can only call me with a high set or Q10 and made a play....it was the huge raise all in that threw me, as it looked like a bet not wanting to be called...my question is if i think im ahead should I call in this spot, or regardless of that fold and wait for a better spot. IMO I was the better player 3 handed and was confident of out playing them. But being a fearless NLH tournament player I do not mind calling huge bets if i think i have read the hand right....thoughts please??
