As a lesson, I actually semi yelled at the screen, "did you really flop a set of 8's here?" Not trusting my instincts the hand just proceeded to get worse for me. I was very suspicous of the overcall on the turn and should have went in to c/f mode or exercised better pot control given my suspicions that 77 88 could easily be in his calling range pre, even more logical I should have just mucked pre. Any feedback is welcome. Thanks

A4 well played... seriously fold pre, fold flop... As played folding the river in this tournament would be pretty damn horrible.

I think the lead/call on the flop you could give him hearts or 78, or possibly the flopped straight trying to be tricky. Of course the two top sets are in there as you said. Once the board pairs and he still flats the turn bet, I think you should try to get out cheap now with the set of 4s. Even when you make the boat on the river, i don't see any reason to get out of line like you did. The only thing that's going to call your river raise is 45 or 46, since those are the only hands with a 4 he might be playing. I suppose he might get dumb with A8 there, but those are so few, and weird, hands, you might as well pick off his river bet with a call if it's a bluff, otherwise, you're just behind and you don't stick anything else in the pot. It'll be half your stack, but that early, that's pretty recoverable. Basically you got way out of line with a pretty terrible hand and you happened to make an awful runner runner to get you in more trouble. Fold A4os in first blind levels all day.
