  1. ive heard this said about position in tournaments and its like M of 4.5 or M of 14 as in the poker x factor ad, can some one explain this to a noob
  2. M = Your chips / Chips in the pot (blinds, antes) preflop
  3. M = stack divided by blinds/antes

and its basically the number of orbits before youd be blinded out
  4. M is your chip stack divided by the amount it costs you to make one circuit around the table.
  5. thanks everyone

  6. Which raises a question, what do people use more, M or amount of big blinds left, when making preflop decisions?
  7. position refers to ur spot at the table. under the gun (utg) refers to the first person to act after the big blind. early position can be utg through 3rd person to act. middle is like 4th through 6. and the last players before the blinds are considered late position.

m refers to ur stack in terms of the blinds. to calculate m simple add the blinds and antes and divide your stack by that number. for example. blinds 100-200 with a 25 ante at a 10 person table. 300 + 250 = 550. if your stack is 5500 then u have an m of 10 if your stack is 2750 then ur m is 5.

for my info on this, read harrington on holdem. it really changed my game. hope this helps.
  8. Lots of players panic when they get down around 10-11 BBs. In actuality, you can wait a lot longer to find an ideal spot than many players think and still leave yourself the chance to go deep.
  9. I generally think in xBB, but pay attention to my M as well. The relation between M and xBB depends on the size of the antes. Antes on FTP are larger than on stars, so the same xBB stack at, say, 200/400 equates to a smaller M on FTP since the preflop pot is bigger (25 Stars ante vs 50 FTP ante at 200/400)
