Is anyone against bringing back the nicety of an honest, non-sarcastic, "nh" and "ty"? I understand that many players are simply playing too many tables to do this regularly, but it was a nice showing of respect of a hand well played, even if amongst the degens and scumbags. I'd like to the see this minimal use of the chatbox come back into stlye. Seriously.

Unfortunately, I'm more of a "gfy" "smd" kinda guy. Working on it though...

chatbox has been a shite box since they took away drink/snack orders at the tables
ranDOE: ughh nh
RAMbo: ty sir
RAMbo: drinks on me... -
nh wp etc...

Just semi-bluffed a decent stack off in a tourney and promptly got berated by the whole table immediately after the cards were turned up.
I hadn't said two words in the chat box up to this point.
Poker is not a friendly game. So I think i'll just stick with the 'Turn chat off' option or my 'GFY, SMD, DIAGF' macro. -

Exactly, it is war. I am usually fairly nice when playing live/online, but will not hesitate to tell someone they are retarded or whatever depending on what stupid thing they do. Whenever someone tries to bring up some bullshit about being nice, I reply with, "I don't come to the casino to make friends, I come to make money". Not to mention the shit talk usually tilts most stupid people as well, because they let their emotions take over then they start making tons of mistakes.

Yeah, but if you say NH and inside are thinking what an idiot, it makes the fish want to stay around longer. Especially true for cash games. The recreational players are playing for enjoyment and this is where most of the dead money is at. Its +EV to either ignore the chat or say something nice than to tap the fish tank.

diagf and wp do you coach? are about the only things i ever offer up in the chat box. i get soooooooo fired up when i bust, especially if it's like the 3rd beat i've taken in the last 5 minutes or something. i'm doing my best to get better but it's not easy

Almost always say nh when I lose a big pot live. Do it from time to time online against poor players to encourage similiar play. Otherwise I just play my game and don't think too much of the chat.
-
Its meaningless most of the time, you see it often & feel like saying, no its not, he played it like a prick!
If someone traps you or outplays you post flop, say well played when you mean it.
Im too late most of the time with my 1 finger typing, 2 hands have gone bye before Ive finished! lol. -
Disagree. When you do this you are pointing out their mistakes, something that is just utterly stupid to do if you like money. Also, these fishies will now want to play as best they can against you. Gotta tell them nh, wp, and be cordial when they do something stupid....then they don't realize how bad their play is and will continue to make terrible mistakes. C'mon now.

Why in the hell would you want to help your opponent? I mean You want them stacking off with qt I hope.

I only play micros but I had a guy say "gg" to me after I won a hand. I was ahead the whole way (he wasn't in hand). I said, gg I won the hand?? He said gg means good game, just saying you congrats...I never understood why he said that.
-
Ill say nh gg and stuff if i remember to.. but i rarely remember
-
You are actually completely wrong. First off, I clearly stated that I called them retarded. I never said I explained their mistakes to them, or pointed them out. Fish are idiots and are not smart enough to even understand why you are calling them retarded in the first place. These fishies will not want to play their best, they will put a target on your head is what they will do. Which is clearly letting their emotion take over, which is what we want. Then we wait for a spot, then we own them. It really isn't that tough to understand why it can benefit, and yes it can also lead to suckouts, but that's a risk I am willing to take in the long run it is + ev for me to get them to play emotionally instead of logically/mathematically. It is no different then showing down a bluff to induce a call when you have the nuts. It is getting under their skin to induce mistakes.

Dwight pilgrim ran a very similar line for a while, being the black guy in the south owning up on white guys who whether they did it subconciously or on purpose, a lot of them geared their play towards him based off their emotions felt by getting owned by a black man. If you can get a bad player to let his emotions take over, you will make $$$, if you can get a good player to do this, even better. Good players will be robotic, and ignore any randomnness thrown their way. Fishies do not all of a sudden become smarter if you tell them they are retarded, they also do not tighten up. They start playing more loose trying to crack you the majority of the time.
