P0KERPR0: well played moron
(said to someone who beat him with a worse hand near the final table of the FTP 163. I won't replicate the hand he was reacting to, because the comment is innaproriate regardless of the quality of the hand).
Basically, I'm calling out JCamby because I respect him well enough to know that he should know better than to ever say anything like this, but I see a ton of "respected" players who don't have the restraint or discipline to refrain from these types of comments.
Mostly, the trend nowadays is just to sarcastically say "wp" or mention something about your "range" when trying to berate an opponent, but I still see crap like this that is just expictly out-of-line from a lot of people in this community.
Newsflash: when you mock or berate an opponent, it causes them to either not enjoy themselves and therefore not continue to play, or it causes them to improve their game. If you do it to a fellow professional, you are merely being petty and rude. Ask yourself if you really want that and ask yourself if you're really a professional poker player the next time you consider making a frustrated comment that's hateful and counterproductive. -
wp......
lol, but seriously, I agree.
Game is already getting tough enough with all the training sites without us scaring more feesh off by puting them down or by educating them about how bad their line or play was.
I used to do it a ton but am working on it. -
if that stuff bothers you, you should stop playing. the game is very competitive and words will be exchanged. no dif then when ray lewis tells tom brady hes gonna rip his head off or kill him. its not personal just frustration being let out. forget about it and move on. i laugh when people call me a donk or berate me about a hand.
-
You should write about this stuff in your blog. You know, the one you haven't updated in a year and I still check every day. thanks.
-
booooowhoooo quit crying.. ppl r allowed to rant, btch, etc. if they want. If you dont like it.. block the chat or close the chat box.
-
Im pretty sure you berated me very harshly when i sucked out on you in a 109 turbo sng a good while back for that reason i have never cared for you sir although i respect your game and and have watched in wonderment as to how such a large asshat could do so well
Good Luck Shane

You sir are my hero Great fuckin post. I think everyone should show alittle class whether you win or lose. Too bad alot of the top players seemed to miss that part.
Namaste -
Well, I'm assuming this is from 3-4 years ago, probably from a time before I considered myself a "pro," but I still don't remember ever getting "ugly" on anybody in chat, ever. If you could find a chat transcript from stars to support your claim, or even another player who could accuse me of berating them, I'd happily admit to being an asshole. I suppose I'll have to live with your accusation in the meantime. In any case, pretty funny to hold a grudge for all this time.
-
LOL @ towman playing with Shaniac. And LOL even more at him trying to say Shane berated him. Why dont you bring up your big story about playing with sheets once while youre at it towman.
towman, king of the asshats. -
shaniac, don't give him the time of day - he doesn't deserve it
-
Poker is a very emotional game, I agree with the post and it's a great standard but we all have diffrent levels of control, if you apologize after, it's excusable within reason, if you think it's acceptable then you're sort of a classless smuck.
Well said though Shaniac. -
the thing is, someone who plays for a living knows that people don't always play a hand in the most optimal way and they know that people get it in behind, therefore they shouldn't be berating someone who does this. everybody is going to get it in behind a few times in tournaments, and a pro shouldn't be discouraging a lesser player by berating his play.
-
I want to reiterate I never said it was acceptable but it happens during play and in the heat of battle. This beat likely cost him 20k+ and its frustrating. Sometimes players are on tilt too after a long day of brutal beats and you just let it out. Not saying its acceptable, but it happens, I just dont think things like this should be taken so personally.
Also, I want to add, this is the $163 65k FT bubble, this is no donkfest and a very tough tournament, no player bubbling this FT is going to be sensitive to this type of comment... -
is wp ok?
or is that obviously sarcastic...
is there a difference between a simple wp and wp moron? -
yes you are correct it would have been from 2004 you are also correct in its silly to hold a grudge that long that is a burden I must bear I of course did not save the hand history other than that i have no reason to dislike you I only brought it up because i still rememberd it I thought it ironic you would berate another player for the same action i sill hold/held against you
of all of the big names i used to play with you are the only one i dislike, it is for that very reason if you choose not to belive me.......thats your issue
I have read your blog and enjoyed it i dont root aganist you on the rail so im not sure if you could really call it a grudge I just firmly belive that people that live in glass houses should not throw stones and i am old enough to realize that most people live in glass houses
ftr i do belive in your post
Good Luck -
what about the classic kjldfthewkjlhewkjlthklewhgEKJLD?
i mean its very immature yet i cant stop from doing this. -
I'm not taking it personally, I'm taking it professionally. I wasn't in the hand, nor was the person I was sweating. Criticizing opponents--doing anything other than making poker a light, fun environemnt for random people--is bad for business, and I think a lot of pros have forgotten that.
It's also so routine for professional MTT players to take beats for large amounts of equity, that I believe it's a basic discipline to be able to refrain from making snide comments in reaction. -
I'm cool with berating players and cursing in the chat, especially if you use snotty sarcastic clever vernacular.
Bad players will always be bad and good players will always be good, but anyone who gets upset because they were made fun of in the chat is going to get frustrated and start to play worse, and maybe even tilt. It's also a great confidence boost and good for the ego when you berate a clown for a terrible play he made, tell him you're gonna get his stack, and then take that stack shortly thereafter.
If it was up to me, you could say anything you want in the chat box w/o penalty. Being able to talk rudely is just one aspect of metagame and I am all for it. -
There's such a thing as etiquette. While what you're referring to might be acceptable on the street where etiquette is determined by who fights better, on the field, or at the table, there has to be a level of decency which players can come to expect.
In the very least, they should reserve a set of tables called, "pottymouth village" or "chat abusers" and instead of revoking chat for trashtalking, they should just ban people there for a month - and let the sick and ill-mannered kill or be killed by one another. -
" what about the classic kjldfthewkjlhewkjlthklewhgEKJLD?"
There you go--an example of something I might find annoying and/or immature, but it's playful and doesn't create a negative environment, so I don't consider it harmful in the way that being outwardly nasty is. -
Yea people, keep your beratement and profanity laden hour long tirades about how awful everyone around you is to your skype conversations like I do.
Also, this thread really needs that 'Shaniac approves this thread" picture.
