  1. Anyone know anything about this public hearing that cardplayer is talking about? I looked in at www.statesman.com and couldn't find anything about it. I live in Austin and would be interested in checking this out.

  3. apparently the poker player alliance sent out a letter about this and will be attending. I am a member of the PPA but I never get any of their emails. meeting is at capitol extension building at 2 pm tomorrow in Room E2.030 for any in Austin that want to attend. www.pokerplayersalliance.org has the details. The PPA website says Lindgren and Gavin Smith will be speaking out for the bill. Not too sure if that is at this hearing or what or if that is just a ploy by the PPA to get people to go. So I take it no one is attending this meeting?

  5. Unfortunately I don't see this passing anytime soon but who knows...I would have felt better if it were being pushed by the Republicans simply because they represent the uptight people that keep gambling illegal in our state...oh well gg legal poker

  6. I'm not really crazy about this bill.

Limits poker houses to 4 tables unless...... You are a race horse track!

wonder who is backing this bill
  7. I'll more than likely be in attendance. It's a step in the right direction.
  8. Anybody know what the dress code is?
  9. I don't imagine there's a dress code but I suppose business casual type clothes at the least would be most appropriate.

  10. I don't really care who backs the bill. Just because the horse racing industry had a better lobby and got their carve out in the UIEGA, that doesn't mean I have something against the horse racing industry. I have something against the way our Congress works. Any type of bill that makes poker legal in Texas in any form is a step in the right direction in my opinion. Especially when the legality of online poker in any given state could eventually come down to whether poker is legal in that given state, and whether poker is viewed as a game of skill in that state, etc. etc.

  11. I'm with you I don't care who backs it. If it gets passed the state will see what kind of money can be made off taxation of this great game and that will be a plus not only for Texas but ultimately online poker as well. The problem is our state is very conservative as a whole and the Republicans will definetly put up a fight to keep this bill off the floor IMO. We will see and hopefully all goes well. I would come but I will be too busy illegally playing at home LOL J/K I would be there but I have to work so represent the P5s community and GL.

  12. this actually has a great chance to pass. my friend is an aid for speaker craddick and he says there has been very little opposition voiced over this bill so far. i will get more details tomorrow about the hearing.
  13. OMG, pls pls...

Retama Horse Park is literally hmm, 1 block from my house. I can walk there everyday, weeee. =P
  14. I emailed the the Texas Poker PAC, the group behind this bill last week and asked if there was anything I could do to help seeing that I'm a lawyer at a big firm here in Texas. I am pleased to say that they got back to me within the hour and asked me if I could help them research a few legal points relating to the bill, which I happliy helped them out with. I was highly impressed with the people at the TPPAC, they had a strong grasp of the issues, and were leaving no stone unturned in advance of the hearing, so I like our chances.
  15. So any news on the hearing? Did it happen? I'm guessing nothing happened since cardplayer hasnt followed up on their report from earlier in the week.
  16. The hearing took place yesterday, I havn't heard how it went.
  17. Parking was ridiculous, so I unfortunately couldn't attend. Also, I wasn't able to view the live webcast of the hearing either. Hopefully it went well.
  18. Hmmmm. I bet I glazed your windows. You live on the back side of the property? Near the amphitheatre?

Nice neighborhood. Either that or you live in Selma proper or Bracken or Garden Ridge. Yea, how come Retama hasnt gotten slots like the track in Dallas?
