  1. i play in a weekly cash game, 3 days week and there is a few guys that always talk about implied odds, like i a guy has 140 in chips infront of them and they raise to $25 it is a 2-5 NL game...they say they won't call with AK or 55 because their implied odds is they are only gonna win another $100, but if he had $300 infront of him they would call...

regardless of how much the person has behind rather $100 or $1000, the most you will ever win in a hand if you have the best hand and get paid off is the money infront of you....so if he has $140 and you have $140 you will double your roll...or if he has $320 and you have $120 you will on win $120 regardless of the $320 infront of him....

can someone please explain this to me??
  2. I cant answer your question. Other than anyone who plays 2/5 with only 140 in front of them shouldnt be talking about implied odds cause it doesnt apply to them.
  3. flawed logic at its best
  4. Implied odds is a little harder to explain than you might think. Basically in addition to calculating your pot odds.. you factor in what a guy is likely to bet on later streets. In order to do that you need to have a pretty good read on what he has. Once you can put him on a range of hands, then and only then can you even begin to calculate implied odds. And while I agree that you should have more than $140 in front of you in a 2-5 NL game. Implied odds can still be useful in some cases. Let's say I am drawing to the nut flush and I am fairly certain my opponent has a straight or a very strong two pair and will pay off wether the 3rd card of my suit comes or not.. then I know I can most likely begin to calculate my implied odds. He is betting strong on the flop. So I can tell myself, ok if I call this bet and hit this guy cannot see past his own hand he will bet huge on the turn and I will most likely end up with his whole stack. So in that case scenario even though the pot may not be laying me tremendous odds .. I am getting great implied odds from the donk :-) see not hard.. confused yet? Keep in mind you can only calculate pot odds if your pretty certain this guy will bet no matter what peels off on 4th street..
I think posting this just gave me a headache..
By the way obviously you can only win whats in front of you.. but in using pot odds you can maximize your ROI when drawing at strong hands. In closing after reading your post.. Forget implied odds.. you have time.. baby steps
  5. By the way.. do you guys need another player in that game??
  6. yeah what i was trying to get at is implied odds in a cash game is pointless, just play if you have the best hand you win easy enough, you ain't turning that $100 into $1000 unless you have $500 infront of you and get called all in and win....

i just dont understand why these guys think they know so much about the game i went on sick streak of being up a couple thousand, just hit a bad streak of losing 3 nights in a row...only down 500ish though....

they just play so bad and act like they know so much

pointless? wow! you should ALWAYS be thinking about implied odds in a cash game. Fish always are clueless when i ask them to move their arm so i can see their chip stack and then fold preflop, they think I'm fucking with them but I'm realizing they don't have enough chips to play suited connectors or whatever against them.
