  1. 1) 1/2 a buy in (50BB)
    2) 100 BB
    3) 200 BB
    4) No Max

and what advantages or disadvantages you might have with either choice.

  2. I'll go for option 3.

Lots of BB's gives lots of room for making good decisions (and bad ones).

You can play more poker and less cards this way.

I'd still prefer to have a max though, so that there isn't a bully with like 50,000 BB going all-in every hand.

With 200 BB, even if you go all-in with AA vs KK 10 times in a row, chances you're going broke at some point are bigger than chances you'll keep doubling untill you're past him.
  3. You buy in for the max or you move down to a level where you can. End of story. Also, if your stack falls 25% below your original buy-in, you reload to the max again.

Why? Everyone who sits short-stacked in a ring game is SCREWED. You will wittle away. Always be put to the test. Leaned on. Stolen from. And, when you do have the nuts you can't get paid because, well, you have no fuggin chips!

    Make sense?
  4. AGREED 100%. The more chips you have in front of you, the more you can get paid when you do manage to get all of your chips in with the best hand. If you start thinking that you should not buy in with the max because you don’t want to lose that much, move down a level or 2. Also it is nice to have some maneuvering room with more chips. F getting pushed around due to your stack.
