I have just spent 11 hours playing over 30 mtts upto $20 no major cashes and found myself about $250 down not too bad.
Anyway I decide to open up 4 $0.50 / $1 Omaha 6 max tables and have made back today's losses plus a little more in under one hour! I maybe running slightly good in this cash game session but it has got me thinking: I have just slaved away for 11 hours playing mtts whereas I could have played less and made more at cash omaha!
Anyway its kinda obvious that at cash games you can play less (than 11 hours a day!) and can make more than grinding mtts. Do you guys agree with this? Cash games or mtts ftw? -
obv by The sounds of things u pretty gd at cash-and obv u can make more per hour in cash than in mtt. cash games are a no brainer if u like to play em/gd at em.
mtt are all about that big win every now and again that make it all worth while. personallly cant play cash for shit, but love mtt's!!!!
also think its better to play for enjoyment than jus trying to grind out a few extra $s an hour on something u dont enjoy!!!
anyway gd luck with which ever path u choose
see u on the felt -
You should be able to answer this yourself. What are you better at? where do you feel like you have a bigger edge?

Obviously aside from the what are you better at thing there are pros and cons to each.
Cash games, more flexible schedule, more consistent income if you are a good player, playing cash probably helps you become better at any game (MTT or Cash) more than MTTs will help you get better at cash, and at the higher buy ins cash games offer a higher ceiling for earnings, ie, the best Cash players make much more than best MTTers, Mid stake Cash gamers probably make more than mid stake MTTers etc.
Still, two different animals though. I used to think that I was good at MTTs, now I know that I suck. I know that I'm a pretty decent Cash gamer so its a no brainer for me.
Play what you like more. If you like MTTs more then your mindset is probably more geared towards MTT play, if you like Cash better then the same.
I personally got to the point that MTTs bore the heck out of me, I love playing cash, easy decision.
The only time that I'd say to play one or the other while ignoring your strengths might be when building a bankroll at first. If you only have like $100 or $200 in an account it might be more profitable building a roll at mutli table sngs and small buy in MTTs than it is at micro Cash Games. -
Best advice, take it or leave it doesnt matter, this is what I did....
Got a subscripition to Cardrunners and stox poker, since im a member there i got the discount on buying the tracking software Holdem manager (HEM) start reading alot about the level you want to play. Set goals for hands every week.
THEN......
On sunday only play MTT's since thats the day Mtt's are the most profitable make it your day to grind out mtt's
Most pros play cash to win money for there buyins to the events, and then if they bust they go back to the cash games.
IMO play cash and they pick a day or two to grind MTT's cash is much more fun and less soul crushing, plus you can leave when every you want.
ps-best advice, PLAY cash on friday and saturdays! im sure everyone else that grinds cash can AGREE cash games are soo PROFITABLE on the weekends its almost insane!
Anyways GL sir and the choice is yours! pm me if you have any questions about my transition -
Thanks guys for the advice, I do really enjoy MTTS when you get deep and for the 'big score', but after not final tabling an mtt in well over 100 mtts the last week or so (which is normal I accept that) then it can be soul destroying. Then I played some cash last night made all my buy ins back for the day in 2hrs and made a decent figure which I would be happy to have as a target for each day. Doubling up in a cash game gives me just a big of a buzz as winning a huge pot towards then end of an MTT, difference is it doesn't take 5hrs to get to that point.
So I'm going to play cash the next couple of weeks and monitor how that goes and like Sh!p!iD0nk said I will play MTTS on a Sunday (or 1 at a time during each session). I am going to satellite into the Warm Up every week which can be my 'luxury' looking forward to it big MTT game! Also the best thing about cash is the flexibility. One day I hope to go pro and the biggest reason is I can do what I want and the freedom it offers, which MTTs detract from a bit. Thanks guys. -
Friday and Saturday night cash games are absolutely awesome

Don't have to win a million flips in order to turn a profit in cash games.
Cash games > MTTs and its not even close.
I played tourneys for about 3 years and I'm so glad I don't have to deal with them anymore as my main game. Just use em to take shots on sundays and not really care if I bust.
Everytime I play a tournament now though it feels like I'm just throwing money away because of how insanely lucky you need to be to final table any given event. -
MTT>>>>>>>>>>Cash games. MTT's get fun and exciting the blinds and antes go up, there's more dead money to pick up and unless its a rebuy, your losses are fixed per mtt and your profit possibility is HUGE, cash, no so much.

Doubt u'd be saying the same thing if you grinded 3/6, 5/10+ nl for a month and were actually had a solid winrate at it. All the cash players are lol'ing at you right now playing an mtt for a 7k top score aside from Sundays obv.
