I just put some money on FTP for the first time, and was looking through the tourney tab and noticed these cahsout tournies. I read the rules, etc. about them, but I am not sure whether I like it or not. Any thoughts or opinions?

Never cashout and they're fine because lots of idiots do. I figure if you're going to play an MTT at a certain buyin though, the non-cashout ones have much bigger prize pools so I'd rather play, say, the new 10k gtd at 1530 with early antes. Or almost anything else.

they are actually pretty good since i think most good players always want a payout structure that is more heavaly weighted towards the final table
the problem usually is that fish like to be able to cash easily and might not play tournaments where less ppl get paid but more goes to the final table
this tournament not only has a higher payout for the final table due to how the whole cashout thing works but it even attracts fish
win win imo
o and never cashout early -
I've played them a few times and cashed a couple of times. They are okay and it's fun to watch the fish build a big stack and cash out. In one I was playing in the guy next to me had this huge stack and all of a sudden I looked and he only had about 15bb and I knew I didn't remember seeing him lose a big pot so I looked through the replayer and sure enough he hadn't lost anything. Later in chat he was talking about cashing out most of his stack. Too funny!

does it take away the money from the "cashout" prize pool as people cashout?

I know 1/2 of pool goes to in the money players and 1/2 to the cashout, but what do you think if they offered 100% of the pool to cashout and you could do so at anytime?
If you double your stack you could cash out and make a 100% return. If you make final two, and if you dont cash out and lose your stack, you get a big fat zero!
Likely one would cash out at least some of his stack at final table and then play on if they want to try for the win.
A buddy of mine was a top 20 chip stack at WSOP main event with about 400 left. His stack was 1.6 mil. Now this is 53.3 buyins. If he were allowed to cashout for full value of $9400 per 30,000 chips he could get $501,000!! This was equal to 13-15th place!!! Cashing out would seem like a logical choice if it were available.
So would you like to see a 100% cashout tournament offered? I know I would! Are you listening Full Tilt? OMAHA_BURKE -
if this were the case there would be zero prizes for finishing in any position, and would just be a cash game

Here's how it works: You may cash out at any time after, I believe, the first level for the current value of your stack. You may cash a portion of your stack and continue with your remaining chips or you may cash out 100% and leave the game at any time you choose. The amount you cash out for is removed from the cash out pool. When the final table is reach all remaining money in the cash out pool is divided between the 9 players at the FT based on their chip count. The play continues for the prize pool at this point.

There are some positives to cashing out early if you have a big stack or cashing out a portion of your stack if you have tons of chips. You can often get about 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on place money by cashing out your chips (I mean that placement payout based on only the prize pool not including the divided cash out pool). If you are really good at building your stack back up or you want to practice short stack play then cashing out a good portion of your chips and guaranteeing yourself a decent payout might make sense. Optimally you want to make the FT with the biggest stack to take down the biggest portion of the cash out pool and then hopefully take down 1st place but if your game starts heading south in a hurry and you can't seem to turn it around it can be nice to have the cash out option.
@OMAHA_BURKE I have heard of a live cash out tournament (I believe one was offered at the WPO in Tunica last year) that was a cashout. It worked like a cross between a cash game and tournament and was well received I believe. Here is one post I read about it: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/65...72/index2.html
