I just got off the horn with Casino Windsor about their new weekday NLHE tournaments. The breakdown is as follows:
M-F, 10AM start time.
Registration opens at 9AM
60 players max, 8% payout structure (1st through 5th)
M,W,F - $100+$10 Canadian Buy-in
T,H - $50+$5 Canadian Buy-In
I'm going to head over on Wednesday and Thursday and give them a go, check out the competition level between the two buy-ins. The young lady on the phone recommends showing up plenty early for the Tuesday and Thursday tourneys, though, as they fill pretty quick.
If anyone else wants to head over, we can have a couple pops at the bar and talk some smack before/after the tourney.
Oh yeah, remember the legal age in Windsor is 19!

Let me know how it goes.May try to catch one next week.where you live EE?

I played there on friday. The tournament entry was $110 and was full by 9:45 am. It started a little bit late, but i didn't hear many complaints about that.
I thought the tournament ran very well. Tables combined smoothly as people were eliminated.
We started with $T 2000. I believe blinds were as follows: 25/50 50/100 100/200 200/400 400/800 800/1600.
I went out in 6th place at 1:20 pm. :( The final five worked out a chop, then played for an amount left on the table for the top two places.
The cash games are loose, but not easy money. A lot of people in the pots, means pretty good hands are probable.
All in all an enjoyable experience at a busy poker room. -
Ill be out there saturday and sunday. Anyone goin?
-
how long did it take? (nevermind)see it now.
-
I'm in Garden City, Frank, about 20 minutes west of Downtown Detroit.
Pointers, do you remember what the level times were, and what the payout % was pre-chop?
I plan on heading across the bridge about 6am or so, so I'll probably have breakfast and maybe get in some 3/6 before the tourney. -
garden city??????I'm on James just west of middelbelt. small world eh!
-
I have not played there in a couple years....used to Kick azz at blackjack there 3-4 times per year!! Please report back on how the tourneys are.....also is it official that Americans need a passport at this point?
TY MUCH

HEY TEE, ARE YOU FROM MICHIGAN ALSO? passports????we don't need no stinking passports!
-
Ohio Sir...was big rumor that we need passports as of Jan 1.....no true?
-
yes i definetly would like to hear a report on how they went. any tourny's on the weekend?
no passports. just birth certificates. -
Just checked with friend who was there last week, you need drivers license and birth certificate. What you are talking about won't take place until 07 and they are planning on some other way other than passports.
-
How far into Ohio Tee?
-
These have been going on for a little bit now. My dad plays all the time, i can't, since i have to work everyday.
Some advise, get there early. If you think you are going to get there to early, then you most likely will show up to late to register. Registration starts at 9, but i would get there before and play some cash game. The people who are seated at the cash game tables before 9 get first chance at registering for the tourny. So show up earlier, maybe like 7 or 8 and sit down and play some limit or no limit games. They take a $6 rake every half hour at the no limit tables and a typical rake for every hand on the limit games.
It seems to run pretty smoothly. Levels are posted on the plasma screens around the room. No smoking either, so that may or may not be a plus for you.
Just like others said, you need a birth certificate and a license. Dont forget the birth certificate, or they will give you a hard time trying to cross back over. Getting into Canada is no problem, they hardly even check your license, but getting back over can be a bitch. Passports will be required next year, but thats a whole year away. -
I love casino Windsor, I'm in Ohio for spring break now and just got 1 question. How long are the blind levels?
-
If you are sitting at a cash table, you can register at 8am.
AO is correct about the cash rakes, plasma screens and no smoking.
I did not have, nor was I asked for my birth certificate to cross the border in either direction. My drivers license was adequate.
I THINK the blinds were 30 minutes. I went out 3 hrs and 20 minutes into the tournament (that included two breaks) and the blinds were 800/1600. It would be nice if some intermediate blind levels were available but I don't think the Casino makes much money by running 60 player/$100 tournaments, so I doubt they want the tournaments to last all day.
If/when you bust out of the tournament, be sure to let the desk know and they will put you at the top of the list for the cash tables. Remember that KK v 79 sooted is no good against a 889 board. The 10 and J are destined to fall!!!! gg $100 buy-in, time to reload. -
I think passports to enter Canada starts 1/1/07.
If you have to travel south to get to Canada they will
prolly just let you in.
Represent West Mich. -
Hey, I'm in Ann Arbor... I don't have any class on Fridays, so i'll probably start playing in the Friday tourney. Let me know if you wanna meet up there before hand
-
what is the payout structure like?
-
I played in the friday one last month and I found it very soft. A few old timers who were complete rocks that you could just run over and a few decent young players but most of the players were way too loose and horrible.
