1. An interesting hand occurred the other day and got me thinking. I was watching the missus play in the WSOP weekly final on party poker. If your not familiar with this competition; party run a couple of qualifiers a day and the top 50 get to play in a tournament on Saturday evening where the top 24 get WSOP entry. I think it was the 5th or 6th hand in and she got dealt pocket aces in early position. I watched in horror as she raised four times the BB (about 100) and picked up six callers in, Flop comes reasonably unthreatening Q 8 4 or something. Now the missus is first to act and the pot is now 700 or so chips in their so she bets the pot. One of the callers moves all in and she calls he shows 8 4 suited for two pair but the board pairs queens on the river so she wins (this is no bad beat story). After the hand was over we talked it over, I said that AA in early position in what is basically a free roll have to be treated differently than most situations, the raise was far too small for this type of competition. I personally believe that early in a free roll type of competition you should actually determine the raise by the size of starting stack and bet 1/3 of this. So I believe the old 3 X 4 times the big blind is ok in reasonable stakes MTT and S+G , but for free rolls invert these to 1/3 or 1/4 starting stack other wise in this case your raising 100 of your starting stack of 3000 then betting the pot which because every man and his dog calls you (and they will) will be about 700-800 from EP which is about a 1/3of your stack whilst anyone with suited connectors or for that matter any old suited rubbish is getting to pay 1/30 of there stack. You can’t just fold if you are re-raised because in this type of competition anyone with top pair is going to put you all in. I just wondered if anyone had any other changes to conventional poker wisdom for the modern internet game.
2. HOW MANY PPL IN THIS TOURNEY DUDE?? WHAT ARE THE SATALITES?

3. They are restircted to 3500 per satelite, These usually fill up quite quickly they seem to run at various times during the day. Quality is quite poor have made it to the weekly every week so far. Usually about 3000 at the weekly final.

5. I will play in the occasional freeroll just for the hell of it on occasion - and it took me a while to figure this out...but it pretty much holds...

If you get AA or KK especially early - just go ahead and push - you'll still get one or two callers...then start praying...

For the most part - just play tight for the first hour or so...the freerolls Ive seen will lose 70-80% of the field by then - and most of the true donkeys...then settle into "normal" ABC play...
6. I disagree. I mean, just because you have AA or KK, you don't have to raise 1/3 of your stack, or more. I'd actually rather push all in as duquedelsol suggests vs. raising so high. Raise so much of your stack, and every pair will call you, any suited connector, and a few off hands. Why? Because they KNOW what you have (they think they do), and they KNOW you're committed to the hand for your whole stack. If they don't hit, to them it's okay, they just fold or try a small post-oak bluff.

I personally will just raise 3-4xbb. If I get multiple callers, and I think I'm beat, I lay down. That simple. You have to be able to lay down hands, and profile the players at your table. If they call with anything, that's a GOOD thing.

These players at these levels WILL call with a lot of holdings. But, they are weak players. They are loose/weak, and they will call, and only bet when they hit the flop. They are very predictable, and practically tell you what they have.
