OK. Glad to see the mixed responses. Glad not everyone didnt say you just screwed up a monster hand. The result was that he folded. Hand over. As far as how passive he was post flop, i seen him lay down to c-bets around 3 or 4 times already with his tiny stack. And yes he bought in for $5 and kept topping up to the same amount after losing a hand.I just figured He may read it as weakness, betting slightly less than 1/2 pot and look at like I'm making it so small so I can fold to a shove. Thanks again for the responses.any more opinions on the situation write away.

  2. With the board being so dry, I might check it to see if he would bet unless he has been reraising you like a mad man. I would check/call and give the image that I have AJ-AK and didn't hit. If the turn is another blank, I might even check again and reraise him if he bets.
  3. How aggressive is he postflop? If you think he'll see a check as weakness and will put his stack in on the next 2 streets to "push you off" then maybe try a check. Usually I bet here, close to a PSB, which will mean the rest of his stack goes in on the turn. The $1 on the flop may seem a little trappy to the villain, only 1/2 pot, = to preflop raise. To incite a reraise if I think opponent is capable of a reraise bluff, I probably slightly overbet the pot to seem I'm trying to buy it and try to get him to push right here. There aren't many hands I can see that will call $1 and not call the larger raise/push. With his stack size and range, if he's folding he's folding regardless, and if he's calling/raising it will be for his stack.

summary: if I think he'll bluff it off, chk or overbet. If I think he'll call it off, PSB on flop. Default play:Lead out near PSB.

    my .02
  4. How long have you been at the table? Did he buy-in short? Or has his stack been dwindled away? In any case, I like your bet because it achieves a couple of things.

    1. It may appear to him to be a continuation bet with a hand like A-K, A-Q, or A-J, which may incite a call.

    2. It may look like an attempt to bully him because he's the small stack, inciting a call, or better yet, a raise.

The reason I asked the questions at the beginning is because a lot of times I see guys get short like this and they get steamed and start calling off quite light. Usually what pushes them over the edge is being bullied around and then they jam their stack in with pretty marginal hands out of spite.

Anyway, I like the play and I hope he played back at you.
  5. I usually bet right out with a set. I would put in a bet of 1/2 the pot. I would do that if I missed as well. Here you got a set and you really want to get all the chips in. So to build a bigger pot by the river I find it's just best to lead out. This also helps to give your normal continuation bets more respect. Although if you know the other guy will bet if checked to check/call here. But I like to bet out 1/2 the pot or maybe just under here(considering his small stack).

    I totally agree.

I only play 6-max at $0.05/$0.10 NL (full ring at $25NL) and I find it's usually best to bet out with your sets. If you don't get action, you probably weren't going to get it anyway, and all the reasons cardplayer52 mentions as well.

    exactly my play
  8. " But I like to bet out 1/2 the pot or maybe just under here(considering his small stack)."

Just seems too small to me. My normal bet is def. 2/3 to full pot sized. I think vs his range you get more equity putting more in on the flop. I think the same hands call/raise both bets, so bet more while you've got the nuts. Even w/AK(for example) my cbets are usually around this size.

I also think an overbet looks weaker than 1/2 pot or smaller..more hands may call and fold the turn w/ smaller bet, but the times AK/AQ/TT (or worse) and bluffs push over the top on flop leads to more $$$$ over time.

Alternatively, if you are fairly certain sloplaying him gets him to put it in, try it, but I'd have to be pretty solid in my read.
