I normally play tourneys with huge field sizes, and in the rare even I make a FT,
I might be willing to make a chop to help reduce the variance.
My question is in which situations should I look to make a chop based on chip
count, and in which case would I prefer to use ICM? Or, are both basically the
same?
thanks... -
i usually tell them that were not dealing unless i get the one that pays me more money but ima jerk :p

If you're one of the bigger stacks, chip chop is more favorable than ICM. If you're the short stack, try and see if the big stacks will let you get away with an ICM chop because it's better than chip chop. Mid stacks roughly get treated equally either way

I think you have to be careful of your logic here. If you rarely make the final table, and your a good player within your roll, odds are it's even rarer for the other players to be at the final table. Combine this with the fact that your a better player, and why do you want to chop at all.
Any chopping method is assuming that all players are equal at the table talent wise. That simply isn't the case.
So, with any chopping method, I think you have to take skill into account. If your the best player and the only one that can play fearlessly (though, if your looking to reduce variance, maybe you can't play fearlessly), you need to be compensated for this. -
Cuz most low limit players who play 26s or something aren't wanting to play a 2-3k HU match.
