im def going to a couple of them since they are in my price range. Thanks guys...

As someone else eluded to, most likely will be the same crowd as Winstar casino... mostly old people and locals from Dallas, Mckinney, Allen, etc coming into town to play... fields should be pretty good (i would expect about 350-ish for the $330 buy ins, and at least 245 runners for the $550s ) but this is just my guess... I played in the TJ Cloutier classic main event there and there was about 196 runners at the $1650 buy in....

Choctaw (and winstar both) are TERRIBLE at marketing and advertising to poker community, but they do put alot of billboards up so that helps a little...
I would say it is definitely worth paying as the fields are mostly old people (retired) that can play during the weeks etc, and some regular/grinders as well, (but few heavy hitters).... Expect the fields to be bigger on Friday ($330's) and Saturdays ($550s) as people are off work.... but if you want easier field take the week off and play the ring events tue, wed, thur, etc....
Just my 2 cents... I live in Allen, which is close to Dallas and know alot of online players in the vacinity. -
I'm planning on playing in a few events this Jan, I've played cash games there in the past. The poker room is pretty nice, and the tables were pretty soft. Like someone else mentioned it's mostly older people just playiing for fun.
-
They have a retarded 50 cent per 10 dollars bet "ante" at their blackjack tables.
-
It's about 80 miles North of Dallas, you could fly in to DFW and rent a car, the hotel is offering rooms for players at 69.00 a night.
-
Gonna be playing the NL events on the 13th, 14th, and 16th wanted to play more but gotta work for da man.

Hope to bump into some P5ers, should be a pretty good turnout. -
Probably making the drive down, dunno what day though. Pretty long series no way I want to stay for full thing. Will there be good cash game action and how will this series compare to belloxi?
-
Going to make at least a couple of events. I think you'll see a bit more than usual compared to Winstar and Cloutier event.
-

-

Talking to some locals, it sounds like this will be well attended for certain events.
Ready for some fun. -
Not really. Just seems like more people are aware of it than I thought. As you and your friends are playing, it seems that the weekend play will be good.....I'm doing the same, along with a few others i know.
-
Anyone know if there's late registration for today's ring event?
-
Was there last weekend, sattys looking juicy. I imagine this will be a very good event overall. Little late on the TV coverage tho. Choctaw has shaped up to be a "wow" nice casino.

Going on Sunday, I would expect it to be 1200+. -
I'll be there. There's gonna be alot of good cash games going on and the events shouldnt be too bad at all. Deff worth going up there. I know most of the winstar players i see weekly will be up there all month. Should be a busy month for sure up there.

Played today's event and there were some pretty annoying issues. Got there before the event started and finally began play at the beginning of level 3 as an alternate because of how long the lines were to sign up. There was one person dealing with walk-up sign-ups. Some people who registered online were pretty upset, too, because the will call line was very long as well. People who signed up weeks in advance ended up being alternates because it took them so long to get processed. Pretty inadequate staffing throughout the day.
They started us off in the actual poker room (majority of tables were in a convention room). Nice room and comfortable seats, but not ideal for tournament. Their tournament clock wasn't working in the room for about 90% of the time and it was kind of annoying being sandwiched in between cash tables.
Biggest issue was their chips. Players at my table were given orange 5,000 chips. When my table first broke, I moved to a table where the 5,000 chip was silver. If this isn't bad enough, I realized after another table break later in the day that the black 100 chips weren't the same for everyone. One table had SILVER 100 chips, that were very, very close to what the 5,000 chips looked like. Two players made mistakes with them during today, one busted because of it. And on top of honest mistakes, it opens up the door to shooting angles as well. Just pretty ridiculous in general.
When cashing out after cashing in the tourney (brag obv) they had one person manning the tourney payout line. Between the registration line and payout line I did two hours of standing on top of 14 hours of playing. And the last thing you want to do after playing poker all day is wait an hour to get paid while listening to annoying people recount how they busted out to every single person without earshot.
This isn't me trying to completely bash them. Their floor guys seemed relatively competent and some dealers were very apologetic about the chip situations. They just clearly weren't expecting this big of a tournament and hopefully most of the problems can be chalked up to that and typical first weekend jitters. I really hope they work these things out and the rest of the series runs a little smoother. It's a nice casino and good facility to host something like this.
Good luck to everyone playing tomorrow. There's no way I can play another 15 hours so I'm taking it off.
