  5. no its fine with me but just when did that happen. and how can u call moneymaker the godfather when u have ivey, doyle and many more that could have that name

  6. because Moneymaker is the person who inspired the poker boom. It is hard to argue that anyone has had more of an impact on it than he did. Whether or not that is because of his own virtue is irrelevant--he is the "everyday guy who won 2.5 million in a poker tournament."

  7. never go against the family.
    1
  8. Well, heck, I'm an everyday guy too.
  9. moneymaker FTL, what has he done since the wsop in 2003?
  10. He got second in a WPT
  11. money owns
  12. How ironic is it that the poster's name is wannabeplayer that is attacking moneymaker, LMFAO
  13. MoneyMaker started the DONK revolution.....................

  14. I love matusows quote at the WSOP, after reraising...."don't worry buddy, my bluffs never work anymore either. This is the new age of poker. Nobody folds."
  15. Robert Varkonyi is how. The 2002 champion was an ametaur also, never played the WSOP and won it his first try. Why is Moneymaker more popular and gets the credit? His win coincided with the real poker boom cause - the hole card camera. 2003 was the first year it was used in the WSOP and THAT is why it took off. The viewing public can play a hand with the participants - they know more than the people at the table. It revolutionized poker on TV, and it is the real reason for the boom.

WSOP entries has risen steadily every year, but after the televised coverage in 2003 with the hole card camera, it went from 381 to over 2600.

  16. Chris "god bless chris moneymaker" Moneymaker is def the godfather of the poker revolution. HE is the impitus behind every 18 year old college freshman and 40 year old once a week home game player going online and throwing their paychecks in games that are over their head every single week. The nickname isn't saying that he is a great, legendary player, but rather that he kickstarted the poker boom which he did by winning the WSOP.

  17. He happened to be in the right place. Televised coverage with hole card cameras is what started it. You're saying the WPT doesn't have any credit either?

    Randy
  18. You both have valid points. I think it was a combo of the initiation of the hole card cam and a regular joe winning that sparked the boom. Had harrington won it in 03, it would have just been another televised event where a pro won......but maybe not, who knows...lets just be happy it happened.!
  19. Money Maker is a Donk. "I learned by playing" Hard to believe he has a Bachelors Degree.
  20. he came in third in a 2005 wcoop stud hi lo event.
  21. so asking a question is attacking someone?

  22. Sector you are an idiot...how can you call Moneymaker a 'donk'...the guy won the WSOP...period end of story...while you sit in your superman undies at home playing micro limits. get a clue man and give credit where credit is due
  23. is playing the high limit tourneys in batman undies ok?
  24. Of course he is the godfather of the poker revolution and I don't even like him that much. How can any1 say that he isn't the best thing to happen to poker? If it wasn't for him, so many amatuers would have never thought they could play against the top players and same goes for the internet players. He made internet players respectables. Also he is the reason most of the donkeys play and the reason the donkeys pad our bankrolls. Let me quote Mike "the Mouth" Matusow... "GOD BLESS CHRIS MONEYMAKER!!!"
  25. Remember that the WSOP in 2003 was a 7 part series (thanks ESPN)...............I think in 2002, it was only 2 parts, both at the final table.

The other thing is.............Moneymaker has the perfect name and is the perfect kind of guy.............he was an everyman, slightly overweight, regular job (accountant) and spoke like an every man..............he just fit the bill, while Varkonyi was an MIT grad, and was not easily accessible at all.
  26. RPL,

The 2002 WSOP was televised with hole cards by ESPN. The reason that Varkonyi didn't take off like Moneymaker is because MIT grads aren't exactly "everyday people". People connected with Moneymaker because he seemed like the guy you run into at the local bar or play softball with. The 2003 WSOP also had more episodes and they replayed the hell out of it, so ESPN also did a good job of pounding it into your head.

  27. So nobody wants to give the HOLE-CAM just a litlle credit for the "poker revolution"
