  1. Assuming all of this is true where he had at least one of his accounts bought out ...

While ethics are a big deal in poker, they do not hold as much weight as they do in journalism. Ethics and credibility are supposed to be held in the highest of regard in the journalistic field. If you don't have credibility as a reporter you are nothing.

Chris Vaughn came onto this message board, bragged about his wins, went onto a radio station, gloated about his excellence and now has lost any and all respect anyone in the poker or journalistic community should have for him.

Here's a link to a radio interview he did last week:
    http://www.pokerroad.com/_/big_poker_sundays/11-18-07/

In the interview I thought he was scum even before all of this buying out of accounts came into play. As a journalist you are not supposed to take gifts, rewards, money, etc. from the subjects you are writing about (ie Nat turning down Absolute Poker paying for his trip to investigate them.) In the interview he stated how he had a top player (likely Imper1um) who was backing him and helping him with his game. It is probably not uncommon for poker players to offer poker journalists favors as they want good things written about them. It is however the job of the journalist to practice proper ethics in turning down any solicited or unsolicited gifts, favors, etc.

Chris Vaughn has crossed the line in both journalism and poker.

  2. point taken but honestly, i am numb to this stuff at this point no disrespect to many of you true "online pros" out there, but its honestly just common sense to know that playing in cyberspace for cash or in a tournaments with these stakes is sketchy one way or another period. I love poker and I still play online, but from the first day i ever deposited I did it with the knowledge that I really wouldnt really and truly know the following:

That others could see my cards
That people could collude over AIM and cell phone
That people could have multiple accounts
That poker sites could skim excess rebuys right off the top of the prizepool(no way to verfity this)
That money would be lost in illegeal offshore accounts
That sites would go out of business
That the cards which came were just as random if not more random then regular decks.

Anyone who DOESNT think that any of these things is possible, is ridiculously naive and is just completley blinded.

WE all still play online, and some continue to kick ass, but it doesnt mean that any of them are without the above mentioned risks.

Just something to remeber when we consistantly complain and are "shocked" by this type of stuff.

AS for the guy being a journalist i cant take on poker radio show, or even a card magezine serious as a form of journalism.

It's because of clowns like him.

It is important to have credibility in poker, but not necessary. Not so in journalism.

  5. I would assume all journalism, even poker journalism should be taken seriously. I would be supprised if he doesn't lose his job. Bluff can't put out a magazine with and editor that has no credibility. Oh well, someway or another there will be justice in this particular incident.
  6. I'm not sure how to respond to this yet, as I just finished a marathon thesis/final exam session. However, I 100% will respond to this, so I'm reserving this spot so I don't gloss it over later ;-).

  7. I live like a mile from Bluff HQ Im really thinking of going down there and picketing for his firing after all this comes out even more. But, that might be overboard I dont know.
  8. please post pics if you do
  9. Just talked to Chris on phone Bluff # He told me not to harass him and threatened turning me into police. Then i spoke with Matt Brown (sales manager) HE also told me the police were going to be involved if i didnt stop calling Bluff. Is it wrong to ask why they employ known cheaters?
    I think not .
  10. can u make a sign that says POKERDB ISNT EVEN CLOSE TO The COOLEST THING EVER
  11. what is the # id like to get in on this police callin shananagans im sure theyll rush right overto your house wit swat for callin BLUFF mag and asking question. its a sad day for law enforcement when they have to choose Bank robbery in progress or Bluff Mag caller hmmmmmmmmm
  12. Was just threatened with legal action. They say they traced the # i gave them. Someone else give them a ring.
  13. When people get defenseive it usually means guilty. If he doesnt get fired Im definetly picketing Bluff HQ snd will post pics. Might as well have fun with it. Obv I will do this if he admits it or doesnt get fired or when FT sends out a press release. I think its still early to take it that far. But guys like this will ruin online poker for us all and their should be other consquences than losing your money that u didnt earn.
  14. I'd say he gets fired in time.....When the CEO put his neck out on the line for the kid by making a public statement, and it ends up he did cheat - i can guarantee this CEO wants that kid gone. They prob just need time to make sure they don't get sued for a wrongfull termination lawsuit.
  15. I agree.
  16. this is why everyone used to play poker wit a gun at the table, personaly i think we need to bring this rule back, allow guns at the table in live play, and for people who get naild cheating online should just get a azz beating everytime they show there face for a live event.
  17. Totally agree.........This guy is a total douchebag.

oh and the Gobboboy interview is great.

  20. Money fades etiquette.

  21. To Jennifear:

This is with all due respect. You practically fell over yourself congratulating this scumbag after his "sick scores."

Considering how lightly regarded I am in this community (due to the fact that I only have a 21% sng roi and my biggest MTT cash is like 2 bucks) and how highly regarded you are (due to your insane rois and teaching skills), I'd appreciate a retraction.

When this kind of crap happens, I think the big "names" around here ought to be heard. In this case, I think you pretty much owe the community an apology for basically vouching for this dbag.

Either way, I'd like to hear your opinion, and why you felt the need to validate, through your previous comments, the obviously crooked results for Mr. Chris Vaughn.
  22. CROWN cv's a$$ immediately
  23. lol, how many times did you call to get them that angry?

  24. fire Chris, hire round, problem solved
  25. threebanger-

I had no idea what you were talking about with this post, so I searched through my posts, and found on 10/30/07 that I congratulated him on his wins:

My quote at the time: "Nice hits sooooted! Way to go!"

Is this what you are talking about?

I'm not sure how this is "validating obviously crooked results". I had no idea or had no reason to suspect that anything crooked had occured. I'm also not sure how this is "practically falling all over myself". My intent in posting that was simply to congratulate a guy who, as far as I knew, accomplished something nice.

How you could stretch this into me "vouching for someone" is beyond me. I never knew (and still don't really know) who Chris Vaughn is. I know nothing about his character, and never claimed to.

Obviously I don't owe anyone an apology for congratulating someone on a win. I often reply to "so and so won something" posts with a "WTG, good job" etc. My post was nothing deeper than that, and how you could interpret it as such is beyond my comprehension.

I have no opinion on this matter. I don't know the facts.

I have no idea why you felt I needed to post on this matter.
  26. Spoke with owner of Bluff on phone. Police threats have stopped and i am satisfied with Eric's response. But Chris Vaughn has lost all credibility in any form of media. In my opinion he used contacts made from job to cheat the poker community. This is similar to insider trading or other white collar crime. Plus the blatant lie on Big Poker sunday when he was asked about his play makes Chris even more guilty in my book. You knew there was an investigation Chris why continue your lies? I am eagerly awaiting Bluff's official response as well as an explanation from the cheat himself. also Sorel has shown his true colors. He will obviously do anything within means for a buck. Winner at poker but with those ethics an eventuall loser at life.
  27. No matter your opinon of this guy, or his actions please do not use this forum to incite harrasment of anyone.
  28. You have no opinion on this matter? You had no reason to suspect a crooked result? Someone who never won a damn thing wins the two biggest online tourneys in the world, in 7 days? I picked up on it right away, how could you not? What about Absolute Poker, are you still waiting for the facts to come in on that one too?

As far as that last thread went, your response was after several, including myself, questioned the nature of Chris Vaughn's victories. So you're saying you read the ones mentioning his "achievement," but not the others? That's fairly hard to believe, but I'll take you at your word.

It just adds to a disturbing trend of a ton of high-profile online poker names who are very strangely silent about this and other scandals. Sorry I made you come out of your shell for two seconds.
  29. To go on live radio and act as if, fuck him. I too heard him on pokerroad radio and thought, what a lucky talented fuck. But now h'e just a fuck. FIRE HIM NOW bluff. Nobody will have any respect for you otherwise. You have to do it period.
  30. boke, ediquette is one thing. But morals are another - living in NYC and you know that.
Also nice job playing last night. Great win for ya.
