After 2 months of nothing but frustrations, a year and a half of off and on frustrations and excitement that is the game of poker; I am quitting. I sat down w/ the last small chunk of my bankroll that I had not yet withdrawn (withdrew most after the legislation passed the senate vote) at the highest level I could buy w/ 1 intention. Go bust or reach a level I had predetermined and cash out. (If somehow I doubled up, I would of course go up in limits) Needless to say, I didn't double up and busted on my first all in, which seemed aptly appropriate way to end my run on Ultimate Bet on the following hand:

This same guy hit a royal flush a few hands before to outdraw a flopped set. He runs goooot.
Right now, I am doing the same thing with my pokerstars account which will finalize and terminate my run w/ online poker. I got started with a $100 deposit and have made off what I consider to be pretty well considering the amount of money and skill level I started with. I played poker b/c I loved it and enjoyed the challenge, but these last few months have taken that love out of me. It seems like its just 1 bad beat after another with success always just out of reach. I have been taking a lot of time off, lowering my limits etc to try to get back on track and out of my funk, but with no luck.
I have enjoyed the forum and my play has certainly benefited from being a member of this community. I plan to remove myself from this board at a slighter slower pace (a week or so). I just wanted to extend my thanks to the many members on here that through their posts and articles have benefited me in one form or another. I am looking forward to the free time I will have to focus on my work and various projects that have been put on the back burner. Now you may all proceed with your flames, sarcastic comments, and over/under bets......
gg tiburon and gl to you all! -
See you in a few months. You should take up fishing, just don't buy a boat and start entering all of the BASS tournaments;-)
-
dude didn't you almost go deep in the wcoop main event? I've seen you win some tournies, do you tilt your money on the cash tables. You sure about this?
-
Actually, that Tiburon is a different and obviously more successful player. I have done well in some MTTs, mostly on UB, and a couple on pokerstars, but nothing overly impressive. I started out playing cash games when I built my bankroll, then after some MTT success and cash game frustrations, I switched to MTTs. I was profitable, but certainly not great like many on here.
Bottom line is, for me, I am too competitive to enjoy poker. It was esier to handle losing when I knew I wasn't very skilled. Once I got serious about it, the fun left b/c I began expecting results that didn't always come. In a game that is both skill and luck, patience is needed. I often lost sight of that and have decided to move on. The stress and anger aren't worth it anymore. -
Just have fun and good luck to you in whatever you move to next!

let's see here....you are 24 years old........you will probably live to be 84 years old.....so you are swearing off poker for the next 60 years ?.....I don't think so........
also......why even make this kind of post ? Do all the people reading this board even care if you quit or you don't quit ? Who cares ? -
well its now officially over. My stars account is now busto too. Twas fun.
Also, enigma....I never really planned on playing poker for the next 60 years even if I had the skill and success of Doyle Brunson. And why make the post? simple: Closure. I have loved this site since I first discovered it and it helped me overcome many of the challenges playing poker brings. It doesn't really matter if anybody cares if I quit, I did it more for myself and as a simple goodbye. There's a bit of therapy in it.
will I EVER come back to the game, I can't really answer that with a definitive response b/c things change in time(including people). I simply am not capable of playing this game with any enjoyment now, or in the near future. perhaps a definitive goodbye for at least a few years and a 70% prob. of a goodbye after that would be better? either way it doesn't matter.
Mucho Gusto and adios poker.
-Tiburon -
Quit teh poker sure but there's no need to quit P5s.com. I think you should try the OT discussion board - its more addictive than poker and way more entertaining and rewarding!
Good luck and God speed. -
"I played poker b/c I loved it and enjoyed the challenge"
take a month or so off and get your desire to play poker back.....
start off fresh with a new game you have never palyed before, maybe play some razz or 7stud......
you will be back.........enjoy the time off and see ya in a few weeks -
all I can say is enjoy the rest of life...as there is a lot of if outside of poker (I know it is sacrilegious) and the cards will be there if you want to come back....but this is just like smoking...I quit several times a week and always seem to come back ;) hope you have better luck!!
-
I'm glad you are able to Man Up on this. There are plenty of others on this site that should quit but, can't do it. I hope all is well with you.
-
who cares? did you get the attention you were looking for with this post?
poker doesn't need whiny drama-queens like you, good riddens cry baby -
Ah, the old gidders stop and go "i'm quitting" post, you'll be back, have a nice break!
-
