  1. Einstein did something very similar

  2. I really think anyone who can't balance poker and school is either retarded or a degenerate. Aslong as you don't wanna play a full MTT schedule you can def do school and poker and still get in 30-40 hours. Make your schedule with classes that aren't all 8/9 am mon-fri. If you can't avoid it just stay away from mtts that start later at night. Try playing cash or sngs, both of those allow you to play many games/tables and put in volume in short times. Go out on the weekends and have fun, grind your tits off on sunday.

  3. If you have any type of science oriented career, where you know, you have like at least one extra curricular activity, its not possible. For those of us who are Marine Science/Bio/Pre-Vet, in 4 clubs, volunteering at 2 clinics and doing research, its not very easy.

  4. try going to school, playing full time AND playing for a serious college athletics program... no clue how i did that.

    community college? :)

  6. I just wanted some advice from fellow P5ers about how they balance college and poker. i am going to start graduate school this fall and have a feeling that it is going to be hard and nothing like undergrad. i have recently been playing part time with a job and it has been hard to put in solid hours. Any advice is good advice at this point.

Manage your time/classes so you can finish all your assignments and study for all your tests, but still have time for some poker. I'm pretty sure that's what everyone who's in college does, and any more detail you want simply won't be good advice because they don't know how you work as a person or what your schedule looks like.

  8. I hate to ask this question but I will anyway. If you have good habits, grad-S shouldn't be that different.

Do you know how to budget you time and prioritize your goals? I thought that's what U-G school was supposed to teach you. Maybe you were toking/party to much rather than learning.

Rest/social life: sleeping and getting a little.

Education (+EV): Classes, research; study; thinking; writing

Poker (+EV if you aren't good at anything else, I hope.): average 2 to 4 hours a day, if you have time to fit it in.

Play MT-SNGs during week and save yourself 'til weekend for MTTs.
  9. Procrastination ftw. I mean...there's not much we can tell you. Just play when you've got time and know when you've gotta call it a night and study.
  10. dont forget about girlfriends as well... btw, time management skills FTW
  11. Get your work done, then play...

not true- i had my best semester ever gpa wise (3.9ish) last semester and made the most monies ive made from poker

  13. I could never balance it all. Took sleep out of my daily schedule and many social outings. IMO put poker on backburner if you're in school. Not sure of your financial situation but college/university social life is irreplacable life experience. Make sure you don't miss out. I still yell at myself for screwing that up.
  14. Study first. Get it done so that you can play the tournies that you want to play. But this isn't always easy but it's easy to develop an obsession for poker. The hardest challenge is to make yourself not play when you know that you need to be doing something else.
  15. man up & stop sleeping

Pretty much don't need to read further than this ^^^^^^.

However a few things. I got all my classes T/TH So I could grind all day on Mondays and Wednesdays. The weekends are for my social life.
  17. also really consider becoming a cash game specialist
  18. if ur playing mtts play sunday all day, tuesday nite. wednesday day an nite, and some saturday afternoons. go out thursday fri sat nites ez game

  19. I thought school was really easy my first 2 years, then once i started playing seriously, and classes got more specific to my major/harder, it was kind of tough. But, you just have to be disciplined. My grades def. suffered after poker, but it was not because i did not have enough time, it was def. cause im the laziest kid out their. My method was not going to class often, playing usually weekends and 2-3 weeknights, and if i had a test i would just buckledown 2 days before and cram. it took me one extra semester, but trust me, if i could do it with my work ethic, anyone can get a degree.
  20. college + poker > job + poker

    it's not even close

    pretty much only this...

just a few more weeks away!

  23. I dont really know or I wouldnt be reading this post.
  24. remember poker comes first u need to pay ur tuition then do wutever the hell u want after ur done the session. ez.
  25. I tried to block all my classes together and then always do all my studying and writing papers right after class and just grind with whatever time I had left after that. Some days I'd only play 1-2 hours other days I'd play all night. I also just took my time and went 12-14 credits a semester and went an extra year to give me more time to play/enjoy not having a full time job. I start grad school this summer so I'm guessing I'll have to cut down even more on weekdays but anything that delays getting a full time job I'm game for right now.
  26. Congratulations you college guys, on a mature informative thread.
My 2 cents, is to make your tutition a strong 1st priority.
Have a rigid schedule, its too easy for poker to disrupt your focus, if you dont.
  27. play only on Sundays and try to squeeze in 1 other day a week. also everything Govshark said. I'll have my MBA in May and I can honestly say that I have procrastinated till the very last minute on every assignment I've ever had. I'm talking like I got a 20 page paper due @ 5pm on a Tuesday, I wake up @7am on Tuesday and finish that shit at like 4:55pm and email it in, arrive to class late obv. I feel like you need the ability to perform well in self created pressure situations that result from procrastinating school work in favor of poker. oh and do urself a favor and don't have a gf who rules ur time w/ an iron fist (y u think I only play on sundays brah?)

I guess I will have to do that. Play weekends a day or two in the week. Have to give up some of the social life up which sucks but o well.
