OK....it's possible I ate paint chips as a child but....

Is it possible that both Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke left UB so that they could free themselves up to align themselves with Caesars Entertainment Corp. and their pursuit of a US Poker company?
Call me crazy...but....
A company like Ceasors might be wise to align itself with these poker icons. Lets face it, if we are dealing with legalized US online poker, the poker companies are not going to be marketing to the current online poker community, they are going to go after all the FISH out there. the very same folks who recognize and remember Hellmuth and Duke.
It would be a plus for Caesars Entertainment Corp. as they would possibly be cornering the US market and would do nicely to have these two Icons in their corner.
I mean everyone and their mother remembers them playing in some distant WSOP TOC event HU. Would be A+ marketing scheme for them to market random US fish, even if it's during the proposed black out period.
It would be great for Phil and Annie. While neither is really adored and loved by the poker community (or at least on the boards) they are still poker icons. Getting away from UB itself seems to be a good idea. The only question is, what took so damn long?
These two hitching up with a proposed legal online poker company could only end in checks with lots of 0's. Lot's of them....lots and lots of them. A+ idea
There is a risk for both a US based prospective online poker company (Caesars) and prospective endorsement players (Annie and Phil) in that this legal US play may never happen, but should that happen both the casino company and Annie and Phil will land on their feet.
Cliffs: Could Annie and Phil join Caesars to promote and market a future US based casino run online poker company? (I ate paint chips as a child.)

Good theory, might also be one of the reasons Lee left Cake.. Neither UB nor Cake are expected to be legal in the US market if regulation occurs.. It does seem though the chances of there being regulation in the near future seem small, but this could be part of the decision making process..

I think I will do the cliffs.

hellmuth is sponsored by aria

I was thinking Hellmuth was working his way away from UB so he'd be available to hook up with WSOP.com, I mean he's constantly going on about his 11 bracelets, it really seems like a natural fit. When the legislation fell through I thought that might be put on hold, but who knows what big time casinos corporations like Harrahs/Caesars/WSOP will do.
The Aria affiliation is interesting, since they're an MGM property, but I imagine if Phil could do both Aria and UB, he probably could use the same dual branding for Caesar's/MGM. Or Caesars could just buy out his B&M affiliation.
I have a hard time believing Annie Duke is a viable commodity for branding, but I guess if anyone would buy her up it'd be Caesars... I mean, if they're going for the everyman beginning poker player she'd have cache along the lines of Hellmuth. -
I see Annie Duke being viable for branding and marketing for a couple reasons.
1- She is the most notable female poker player ever
2- She is possibly the most successful female poker player ever.
3- She is a She (market to females)
4- She is known for Celebrity Apprentice (cross marketing) -
i wonder why howard hasnt hooked her up yet......
-
I was thinking the same thing about Duke/PH. Another possibility for them/lee leaving, is cake/UB don't think they can compete in the US market, if regulation happens. Maybe they will focus their marketing dollars elsewhere. Those 3 people are big assets to possible US poker rooms. They could have larger opportunities ahead or don't agree with leaving US.
fwiw, I ate paint chips 2. -
just a whisper but i heard they were trying to make a baby together..........

so you think giving away a bunch of your income is a good thing?
i realize i dont know you, but i know you from the tables and youre a reg, so would it be bad for you if you couldnt grind it out? -
not ideal of course, but if youre someone who wants to trasition more into playing more live trnys/ wsop events, wouldnt daily sattys to 1k NL WSOP trnys, to $2500s, to razz and PLO trnys, and with many of them filled with fish. there would be a new network of people to build up prizepools in other mtts. but of course it would not be even close to the traffic and bankability of stars and ftp. im just saying there could be some neat juicy options that could be great for poker like i listed above if the blackout ever happens

seems pretty incorrect...as the national internet poker bill is pretty dead...

Edited By: gjallen1975 Dec 31st, 2010 at 08:15 PMCan somebody clarify this. What is "dead" about it? My understanding is that it didn't make it to a vote on the floor in this last session. Obviously if we expected the political process to continue along during congress's next session, then we wouldn't be calling it dead. What happened that has made everybody believe that negotiations wont continue to happen until a bill is passed? Senator Reid burned up all his politacal capital, got close, now his constituents aren't returning his calls about it, so he's dropped it from his priorities? I have no idea what "pretty dead" means. What did the PPA say?Originally Posted by Gags30

I agree PH and AD would make good marketing icons, except what KP said. Why Caesar's instead of Harrah's or something? -
The reason it is practically dead is because of the politics of the issue. While the bill may seem to have appeal to Republicans (especially considering the free market, pro-capitalist, Libertarian appeal) they are generally opposed to it because it is sponsored by Democrats. Setting that aside, there are enough southern conservatives who have to rely on the religious base to fund their elections that they have to oppose it on the "all gambling is bad" aspects.

Since the bill couldn't pass when the Democrats had a 60-40 majority in the Senate, there's even less chance it will pass in the 52-48 Democratic controlled senate. Can Majority Leader Reid bring it back up for a vote? Sure he can. Does that mean it's likely to make it past a fillibuster threat, or even pass if cloture is reached? No.
Unfortunately this bill has a lot of hot political points in it. If the Senate could vote anonymously on it, I bet it would pass... but since there is a record and we live in a time where all politics are cutthroat and blown out of proportion, it doesn't seem likely.
As for Caesar's/WSOP sponsorship, I think the idea that that would carry free entry into circuit events around the country might be enough to sway Hellmuth and/or Duke to sign on, even if there isn't an online presence today. I'm sure that if Caesar's feels there is a possibility of online reality in the next five years that they'd be willing to sign Phil just to tie him up until they get a chance to go live, and use him to build their B&M presence along with their overseas money site and US free site. -
[ ] Annie is a poker icon.

Because people don't think it holds any chance in a Republican controlled Congress
