I played in the $100K Guarantee/$100 rebuy on FTP last night. After getting knocked out in 15th (because I am a donk), I watched the FT. With 5 people left, Sir Watts was in a big hand with PreshaDroppa. Post Flop, there was about 280K in the pot and Sir Watts had a remaining stack of about 500K. The action was on Presha when he lost connection. Instead of betting to win the pot, SirWatts checked it, knowing his hand was beat.
We hear alot about multiple accounts, collusion, etc. It was very nice to see someone rise above it all and play as ethically as possible. SirWatts wound up taking 4th for $12.8K instead of a likely first place price of $36K. Thanks for setting a standard we can try to live up to. -
umm i dont get it...its not unethical to bet there, i mean you have to play to win there are no friends in poker tournys
-
you missed the brag seanwal.
and cool for nice guys -- i think people are pretty divided on this and always will be. -
Awww isn't that sweet! Soon as he lost connection and didn't reconnect I would have insta-shoved just to make it completely obv what I was doing.
Hmmm 12K or 36K??? Money talks BS walks! Call it what u want.. -
Classy move, but as was already said this is a hot topic where everyone is divided.
-
Classy move by SirWatts for real, I doubt many people would do that in that situation.
-
great stuff

Without a doubt a very classy guy - however it seems obvious who does what doesn't it?
Villain A - Bankroll - 1K: Shoves straight away.
Villain B - Bankroll - 4.5M: Meh, whatever, check. -
seems like a good spot to bluff

Goes right up there with the guy who turned himself in at Q-School for using an illegal ball.......honesty and class will get you to the top. Karma runs better than anyone.....well, maybe not better than djk123.

Recently i was in a hand in one of the majors and i had AA at 300/600. Stacks were just right to flat there was a bet and a 3bet before me i think and i was BB (3better was SB). I knew hed have to go w/ any flop but wasnt sure if hed call pre. Anyway flop comes J x x and he disconnects. Knowing hed go w/ any flop i time banked waiting for him to get back. I had to check the flop to see if he was back or not (it would auto check if he wasnt) and he ends up taking a lil and checking. I finally bet and he reshoves JJ and i bust. Not exactly the same situation but i thought this was a rather strange story.

props to mike for doing that but i would have to be pretty good friends with someone to check there. you have to protect yourself and i think its usually silly to assume someone wouldnt take advantage of the situation if they were in your spot. if its someone you trust i understand it and totally agree that should be the standard
-
I mean, I respect him a lot for doing so, but i don't see how you can look down on anybody who would bet there. Just because he knew he had the worst hand doesn't mean he would have lost the hand had his opponent been connected. Pretty sure betting here and winning the pot is 100% ethical. Sucks when you're the guy who got disconnected but that's what Verizon cards are for.

Positive vibes ftw...thats how a professional should act!

good to see class if that's all that is, but fwiw 97% of the time someone discons on ftp they get back in the allotted time, and anything more than virtually a minbet bluff could be pretty detrimental to your stack if he comes back and calls.. and i didn't see the hand itself but if he had any kind of showdown value a minbet turns his hand face up and allows his opponent to shove 100% of his range if he returns, so not folding in this spot could easily be -ev. this really is nothing like waiting for people to return when disconnected in a HU match.
and you don't "have to protect yourself since he might not do the same for you", thats the dumbest damn attitude. for example, my mate just won the APPT manila and traded %s with a couple of his friends who he is obviously lightyears better than at poker. He didn't feel the need to 'protect his ev advantage' by taking a higher % or not doing it, he was happy to simply make his friends happy if he did well. it's not an endeering attribute in life to be always just thinking about yourself. i mean sure that's your friends not an online player etc etc watever i dont feel like getting into this again lol -
When you ship live mtts for 1m and have huge stack in 1k on AP you can do this kind of honorable stuff :) Nice guy tho fo sho.
