You should chop for 3 reasons
A) you dont have an edge on the remaining field, if you are the worst player left then argue your heart out to try and get a chip count chop.
B) it drastically effects your br
C) you are an awesome negotiator and got yourself a great deal
But in general the weakest play in tournaments is during the first bubble, ft bubble and the ft itself. Especially as it gets short handed ft play is often just awful. If you are a good tournament player you will make a very large % of your money during the ft you shouldnt be chopping and giving up tons of ev unless you got yourself a sick deal. -
Everyone should read this. Hey nits, how can you argue with this guy! /thread

here is the only time you should chop. You are 3 or 4 handed, and you are kicking everyone else's ass so bad, you tell them to give you first place money, and they chop the remaning places. Seen it happen, that's when you should chop.
I am only half serious. If I got to final 4 in the Million or something and I was getting the right amt and I didn't think I had an edge, I would totally chop. -
well in live for some reason, it becomes more vendictave. The remainning players will attack the person that denied the chop until they are out so the chop may be done. I guess becuase at the casino your ready to go home or get to the cash tables, I dont know, but at my local casino I have seen only 1 tourn have 1 solo winner, and have seen at least 30-40 chop, even as many as 5 way chop. I think since its a lot of ametuer players they all figure 2nd place money is better then last place money.

I agree right along with this, I posted on here already about my local casino and how it is always chopped once its around 5 ppl and if you dont agree then you get attacked. Dp to this one night I was forced pretty much to chop 4 way when I had around 2nd in chips, and the part that killed me was the next hand the BB was going to commit somewhere around 70% of his chips to the hand. I thought about and figured its 3 of the daily regulars, I showed up for the sat+sun tourns and I was comming back next day for the sun, and as much s I would love to get action, I did not want crazy action from unknow randoms or such. I took the chop as a safe play for the future to have a good name and presence at the table, becuase the guy that was in the BB had also scored like 2nd or 3rd the night before. Bottom line its play to win, like in sports in college football we dont play for the ties anymore, its played to win play for first and get the money.
