great detective work. sounds very plausible.

I'm willing to bet less than 5% of people who have access to the internet or television have no clue how to play NLHE.
So the argument that he wasn't greedy "just stupid" is laughable. -
lmao.....i was thinking it was me....

^^ "I'm willing to bet less than 5% of people who have access to the internet or television have no clue how to play NLHE."
Do you realize you are saying over 95% have a clue? -
Stpauli.. you arent the only one who worries about this. Makes me wonder now if someone is smart enough not to get caught, intentionally goes on downswings to stay hidden but overall is making really good money doing this.
Im glad Im not the only one who is thinking this. -
more arrogance than anything else if the hand history sent to crazy marco hadn't included the cards for all the players, it would been much easier for potripper to deny any wrongdoing. he didnt think he'd get caught and pushed it to the max

might be sleepy seems early when that post was made

<<<<I saw cheating occur a few days BEFORE the update. I believe the only part the update has in this whole thing is the fact that it allowed this rogue programmer to go through the AP software and stumble onto the existence of account 363.>>>>
Then how did they cheat if he didn't have account 363 before the update?
Also, for us to believe this whole scenario, three things must be presumed, both of which are pretty tough to believe:
1. This guy is brilliant enough to devise this whole scheme, brilliant enough to pull it off undetected...but so stupid that he doesn't know how to be careful even though the highest profile online players are trying to expose him publicly.
2. Absolute Poker is so stupid that one, they can't tell that the accounts in question were set up from the same IP, and two, they risk public hanging by pretending there's no problem, and three, they send damning evidence to one of the victims?
3. Money was deposited and transferred into these accounts without the original users knowing it? I get an email every time money is deposited. How'd this phantom user get money in there in the first plcae? -
HE is saying he found account 363 before the update. He is saying it was just coincidence it happened around the time of the update.
1. Computer smart does not = poker smart to get away with it, he worked for AP doesnt mean he was a good poker player.
2. Absolute may have wanted to cover the fact that an employee saw cards, that would hurt sites reputation. Sending the evidence was beyond stupid I agree, I for one am not suprised AP support could fuck that up.
3. Who knows how he deposited, but say the accounts were inactive at the time so the only way the owner of the account would know about the account having money would be from email. Im sure the guy who works for AP knew that it would email for deposit and either A) changed email, very easy to do B) Didnt deposit to that account, chip dumped from another account to it.
Im not saying this theory is 100% correct but I believe it is close like Druff said. -

I know a lot of brilliant computer hacker types who don't even know that a flush beats a straight, so I don't see why being stupid at poker is so hard to understand.
2. Absolute Poker is so stupid that one, they can't tell that the accounts in question were set up from the same IP, and two, they risk public hanging by pretending there's no problem, and three, they send damning evidence to one of the victims?
I am not surprised in the least that Absolute Poker couldn't find cheating if it were painted bright red and left in an empty white room, or lied about it and pretended there was no problem, they are scum bags. Sending damning evidence is just further proof of how stupid and dishonest they are.
3. Money was deposited and transferred into these accounts without the original users knowing it? I get an email every time money is deposited. How'd this phantom user get money in there in the first plcae?
If you hack an account, the first thing you do is change the email address associated with the account. And you probably deposit by chip dumping player to player transfer. Or you 'test' your inactive accounts, and find accounts where the original user isn't even monitoring the old email address from them.
ALL THIS ISN'T TOO HARD TO FIGURE OUT, I'M GLAD YOU DON'T WORK FOR A POKER SITE SECURITY. OR DO YOU? YOU WOULDN'T BE ASSOCIATED WITH ABSOLUTE WOULD YOU?!?!?!? LOL.

Simply saying, "The reason they made such a huge and obvious mistake is that they're so stupid" isn't any kind of evidence. Logic and common sense have to come into play when analyzing a conspiracy. It takes more faith to believe that every one of the bad guys involved (from the cheater to AP) is ridiculously stupid, and that the guy who did this doesn't know a straight from a flush, than it does to believe that there wasn't a multi-level conspiracy. I know it's fun to believe that we're all smarter than "the man," and that big evil corporations are out to get us, but it doesn't help our case to just say, "I don't know how it happened, I just know they're all stupid and crooked!"
Regarding the sending of hole cards in a hand history, there was a post in the initial Waco thread that mentioned that Pokerstars did the same thing when a hand history was requested; the one delivered included all the hole cards.
All this said, I do believe that the Potripper incident was a cheat, I'm just not convinced we can put every piece of the puzzle together based on circumstancial evidence, frustration, or plain accusations of stupidity. -

WOW. A factoid that has nothing to do with anything. Pokerstars has never said there is no way that they cannot view all the hole cards (unlike the lies Absolute told), in fact Pokerstars has stated they can do this and do it all the time to detect cheating.
Logic and common sense have to come into play when analyzing a conspiracy.
Yes, logic and common sense shows that cheating did take place, that Absolute is either too stupid to figure it out or lied about it (take your pick), and logic and common sense continues to show how stupid Absolute poker is. -
absolute said there's no way for a person to see all the hole cards while playing. OBVIOUSLY, absolute can find out everyone's hole cards simply by looking at everyone's hand history and combining it. if everyone at the table can request and receive their own hand history, then obviously absolute can ultimately know everyone's hole cards. they weren't claiming they couldn't figure it out, they were saying that there isn't a way for a player to see them while playing. and, as we now know, potripper couldn't see them while playing; he was told the cards by an observer.
but yeah, i guess you're right. everyone involved, except for us, is just monumentally stupid. -
From the Absolute email: "Our game client only receives data regarding an individual’s hand and no other player hole cards are ever visible – by anyone – except in the event of a showdown. "
so read that sentence a couple of times. Then try to explain your statement:
"obviously absolute can ultimately know everyone's hole cards"
no, it is not so obvious. Do you see their lie? No hole cards are visible EVER. BY ANYONE, except for showdowns.
That is called a lie, and it shows how stupid Absolute thinks we are if you swallow that explanation from them. -
maybe i missed it, but has anyone asked POTRIPPER to come forward and explain him/her-self? Either the person claiming to be POTRIPPER, and one hell of a tournament player, or the original owner of POTRIPPER should say something to clear some of this up.. or has that already happened?
-
I can't buy the whole greed as an end all to explain everything. It just doesn't make sense that someone would go through all that effort and then be so painfully and blatantly obvious. This had to be some kind of intentional show of power. I dont know if someone was just getting their jollies off slapping the online poker community in the face or they had some kind of point they were trying to make like, look what i can do in one of the highest tiers of online poker where more money than some people make their entire lives is floating around. It seems like they wanted this public and wanted people to know that this type of abuse was, and is possible with the simple conclusion drawn that smart players could and might be currently easily hiding such an advantage.
AP managing to send a full hand history of the tournament is another huge point. This kind of blunder is one of epic porportions. Even standing alone this is a scandal in itself after they released the statement that they do not have records of hands that don't go to showdown. Wether or not they have the information it's pretty clear that they shouldn't be handing out entire hole card records for tournaments. I find it terribly ironic...to the point of suspicion...that the most damning of all evidence came straight from the inside.
Sorry for the stroll down conspiracy theory lane, but straight up theres something more going on here than misguided unrestrained greed. -
Our game client ,meaning the downloaded client
not ap software...
idk -
That definately helped clear things up for me.
I read it all in its entirety and you get mad props for it.
thank you -

Lilholdem954 would be my 1st guess. -
1 of the worst things about this whole deal is that after the inital story broke on 2+2 a cpl weekends ago.....The very next morning Potripper was dumping chips like a madman as were several others...Absolute had emails in their possesion saying they suspected something but wasnt sure what......Its unclear but as far as i know Absolute has never even suspended these accounts and they certainly didnt do it when the 1st few dozen emails came rolling in..........
Be it some hacker, The CEO , a roque employee, or Lil Holdem just wanting an advance on whats rightfully his, regardless of who's behind this Absolute poker is run by some dumb mfr's..............
